Sam_Q Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 took a pic of my dyno run: its quite strange in that it makes max power at two points in the rev range Quote
furryfrog Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 interesting graph have you got any ideas why its doing that? also what is the difference with the green and red run? Quote
SLW42 Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 interesting graph have you got any ideas why its doing that? also what is the difference with the green and red run? i think tha red an green are torque an power lines i think looks like it's losin a bees dik of power right at the top rev range Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 23, 2008 Author Report Posted December 23, 2008 furryfrog: I believe that I might be getting a primary harmonic resonance in the intake, a secondary exhuast resonance or both at around 6000 RPM. Theoretically I am getting a primary resonance in the intake at 6000 according to the figures but I know that from other peoples experience that 20V engines don't respond predictably to intake length changes. Also that dip is between the two optimum settings of the twin VVT pulley positions. As far I understand the two different colors show one with the VVT being used and the other with the VVT being turned on and off opposite to whats ideal. I am going to experiment with a different set of extractors and different length intake trumpets to see if I can shift that curve around. I also want to make an angled intake spacer to correct the intake angle problem that 20v engines have stock. This is meant to increase the maximum theoretical flow on a flow-bench on a stock 20v intake by 10%, however mine has been ported to help this already. Quote
Budowski Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Hi awesome thread love the engineering. I'm very interested in the distributor relocation setup on the FE head how is this project coming along ? Quote
Sam_Q Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 shit once again I didnt get notified of a reply so sorry for the wait that dizzy relocation kit was for a 20v, it just needs to be tested but I am over head right now with crap Quote
Sam_Q Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 well it has been much too long since my last post. I have since started my own business in making parts, fabrication and general mechanical work. My car doesnt get a whole lot of attention but I did fit it with some parts that where concept ideas. Here is the main one: I wanted to fit these to my engine: Yaris coilpacks. So I started with this plate pictured with the holes drilled now all machined up: Test fit of the two different compatable coils: I made it suit two types because I was and still am interested in making a batch of these up. A pic of these in my engine bay soon. Quote
Sam_Q Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 for a while I wanted to do something about this nasty alternator mount I made up years ago: and this is what I came up with: I did consider making a few of these up but I won't till I have a design thats a bit more practical. Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 well I managed to work on my car two days in a row which sadly hasn't happened in a long time, anyway moving right along. I was previously told this conversion wasn't possible and I guess by normal means it isn't. I adapted this Recaro to fit into my car: here is what it took to get the position low enough: Seat rails unbolted showing a high lump. The seat during a test fit was too high at the front and hence sloped upwards. chopped and rewelded to be a more flush fit. One side down compared to the far side which at the unaltered angle. After the rails where lowered the pull cable that linked them had to bend around one of these seat support stays. So I drilled out the spotwelds and... Rewelded the brace back in so it sat on top of the frame instead of under it, this gave me just enough extra room. All that was just for the preparation and after that I made up the new mounts that where welded to the seat rails. So in the end it looked like the picture below. I still need to see if I can fit atleast part of the original cover back on the side of the seat but it's not much of a priority. Now the passenger side.... Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Great work as usual sam :D Found something that might interest you and give you some ideas for SQ eng. set up. CLICKY Quote
Sam_Q Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 wow, ok someone has a whole lot more money than me... Quote
chivarao_s Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 hey dude... I can't seem to get the hang of your engine. Is it a supercharger that you mounted onto the silvertop? Nice work!I love "all the customized" work you done but keep in mind that when you customize you also gain performance because bigger is not always better and shining everything doesn't always mean its good for performance...e.a. from my experience shining the exhaust actually makes you loose performance Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 25, 2010 Report Posted January 25, 2010 So polishing makes you loose performance? Quote
chivarao_s Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 So polishing makes you loose performance? Let me explain it by my own experience: polishing the exhaust ports makes me loose high-end torque but gives me a little more low-end torque. And overall I even loose torque :D. In my case this is bad with my little "1.6L" blacktop so I had to buy and install a complete 'new' cylinder-head witch cost me over $300! But hey if you like low-end torque then shoot go ahead polish the ports...:hmm: If you really want to fine tune your car or any car, after every modification take it for a test-drive or dyno-run...Not every modification is needed and so not every mod comes in you advantage Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Oh, your talking ports. Thought you were talking about components. I was sitting here thinking "WTF" haha. Quote
