demuire Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 Yes we (Craig and I initially, and now Haikal and I) have always split the entry fees, and occasionally the fuel money too. I suppose it's always been more expensive for the driver (due to running costs of the car), but then again arguably the driver also has more fun :) Quote
99 Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 I hope I didn't make Rob look/sound like an ogre, that's not what I was saying! I think that if you have no experience, then you should pay entry fee - which roughly equates to about one third of the cost of entering a rally. I do ask my nav to pitch in for the entry fees cos she's new. Plus I wouldn't be able to drive in rallies without her monetary contribution! I would also argue that the driver does have HEAPS more fun - although navigating is enormously enjoyable too. I wondered why Rob hadn't told me just how much more fun driving was? Maybe he was scared I'd give it a try myself and stop navigating for him! Letting me drive Redwarf in KCF 3 rallsprint last year was the most kindest, sacrificing and unselfish thing a person could have done. I still can't get over his generosity in this respect! Motorsport-wise, I would be nothing without Redwarf!! Quote
demuire Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 All hail Redwarf :) I've been a navigator before (in touring road events - not rally) and I do admit it was heaps of fun and very very involving... In fact I'd even go to the extent of saying that it was more exhausting navigating than driving... But I think I prefer driving. But to each their own, I've actually heard of people who actually genuinely like maps and plotting and stuff, and don't like driving as much! Haven't really met any yet though... Except for maybe Haikal? Though I don't think Haikal likes maps... Or plotting. Or stuff like that really... Quote

Don't know about maps, but I quite enjoy plotting...it's like a brainteaser, which I enjoy, me being the intellectual type that I am :) As for liking driving, well, given that I've only driven go karts, and have clocked less 5 hours at the helm of a real car (of which 4 were dual-control), I can't say I have enough driving experience to decide whether or or not I enjoy. FWIW, I do enjoy my time on the go-karts, even though so far I've always come first from the bottom. Not only that, but the whole two people working as one to accomplish a goal is a great feeling as well. It's been more so evident on the night runs, where 'events' are close to each other. There were some stretches of QC where we were driving for about 10-15k's with nothing happening, and in the second-to last nav run, I actually had to struggle to stay awake for two of those streches. (Lunch + hot car + motion = sleepy haikal... just ask Fook... I'm generally good for a few hours in a car before I start dozing off) Quote
demuire Posted July 26, 2004 Report Posted July 26, 2004 (edited) Few hours? :) Maybe bring more Red Bull :) I do admit that towards the end I was having a lot of trouble keeping focused, probably why we missed that VRC along the freeway - in my mind we were "home free" and I the thought of looking out for VRC's sort of disappeared... Oh well, I had a ball at QC, it was a fun fun day and I'm glad you enjoyed it too :D Edited July 26, 2004 by demuire Quote
