mumblezzz Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 So who's doing the Queensland Challenge this year?? Sup regs and entry forms available Here I'm also looking for a navigator :D :) :S Quote
mumblezzz Posted June 18, 2004 Author Report Posted June 18, 2004 Sounds good. Seriously considering throwing the engine out of the blue car into the red one to get it going for this. may have a busy weekend on my hands. Quote
demuire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Darn it, that means you'll be in the same class as me too... More competition!!! :D Quote
Redwarf Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 ... And y'all know who's class that puts you in, too, don't you? :D Quote
99 Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I am definitely going to be navigating for someone... not sure who but looking for gun BSCC driver with fast tarmac car - it's an interclub challenge round so we're serious about this!! Redwarf is entering, should be really competitive yet again! Quote
demuire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Mel: Why don't you drive? Rob: "Oh." Okay, maybe I should like, pretend my car is a pre-68... Or put a turbo on it so I'm not in that class... Or... Just roll over and play dead... :D ... and then there's Craig in PhatDat. That thing should be *seriously fast*... I won't be surprised if it's the quickest car in class... Quote
demuire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Fook's Tips on... How To Win an Event... 1) Get a really quick car. Like not one that is marginally better than the competition, but one that is so much better that it doesn't matter that you can't drive... 2) Get a gun navigator. This will ensure you don't get lost, and that your "really quick car" will still have a chance to obliterate the opposition where it matters. 3) Learn to drive really well. This bit is just too hard... 4) Enter in a class where you are the only competitor If all of the above still don't work, or cannot be achieved: 5) Sabotage the opposition. Arnotts Shapes are a good place to start, broken teeth usually prompt opposing teams to pull out in search of dentist. Most important of all, make sure you enter in a class that doesn't have a Mr :D in it, because even with all of the above chances are you still won't win... ... Hey look, we're all in the same class as Mr Rob... YAY :) Quote
99 Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I'm not driving because (a) Redatto is still being repaired; (b) even if it was repaired, I am not quick enough to be competitive; and © there are a shortage of gun navs for the interclub challenge. So am looking for a ride - not sure who I'm going to pair with the GUN mr redwarf, but I'll find someone! Quote
demuire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 ... not quick enough??? In that case... where on earth do I stand??? Well, following on from my own tips, I don't qualify for 1-4, so I guess I'll have to resort to sabotage :D Hey Rob... Do you like Arnotts Shapes? :) Quote
mumblezzz Posted June 18, 2004 Author Report Posted June 18, 2004 Hehe, I don't honestly think i'll be in with a chance. I've always been spectacularly slow. Quote
demuire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 We will get lost, so we won't finish anyway. I hope the first special test is at the starting venue, and I hope it's fun! Might be the only one we do... (I have such confidence in my navigator...) Quote
demuire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 From memory Haikal used to be really good. He's very bright and has a good sense of direction. But last night we got lost by the 3rd instruction (he missed the 2nd one), it took him more than 10k's to realise that we were lost and when we were supposed to be in Cannon Hill (the question specifically asked the name of something in Cannon Hill) we ended up in Mt Gravatt. Then he couldn't tell left from right, repeatedly told me to turn right when the instruction said left and vice versa, and then to top it off when we did discover we were lost and decided to just head for the next checkpoint, I pointed out where we were on the UBD, pointed to where we needed to be on the UBD (approx 1 map away, main roads) and even then he couldn't navigate me there. It was only when I saw the signs to get on the city via SE Freeway (at Toohey, we were supposed to be going to Beaudesert) when I went "hang on, give me that map" and then he goes "oh hang on, we were meant to turn back there...". And repeat. Repeatedly. The only thing that got us to the end (very very late) was the UBD (which we supposedly didn't need) and the fact that I sort of knew my way around Brisbane). Queensland Challenge we have none of those aids... Oh gosh I hope it's just nerves and that he'll get better, we seem to have a knack of getting lost within the first 1km... Quote
Redwarf Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 Right. The time is getting closer. It seems we're doing the Rocky Rally the week before, so will therefore have four days to change from dirt to bitumen settings. Piece of cake. Having said that, if anyone needs some garage space (Fook?) or some help in preparation, the Stanza should be gone by then and I'll have two bays again. I'll probably be home each weeknight for about two weeks prior, but will be away the weekend before the challenge. Giddee Up!! Time to start getting excited! R Quote
demuire Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 I'd love to do more prep on my car, but I don't have any money so I'm just going to hope that everything holds out... Thanks for the offer anyway :D Quote
