jdhwiley Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 (edited) Picked up the KE55 for $0 the other day. Massive rust and front end damage. Have so far killed all the rust and have straightened the front. Have got chrome bumpers to stick on once painted. Need some design ideas as ive got a blank canvas to work with!! jamesrolla Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 looks like a good project, you could lower it down a little for a nice stance, what colour are you going to paint it? and you can't complain about the price.....$0 you could start a thread for this car in the rides and projects section kepp up on the work cheers james Quote
jdhwiley Posted September 22, 2006 Author Report Posted September 22, 2006 Tar, James Its getting registered on Monday so a mad rush this wekend to bring it upto code. Once "roadworthy"!!!. I reckon super low Kings with at minimum 15" deepdish rims. Ive got high gloss black in mind for the paint but with the price of re-sprays I'm likely to source alternate means. I will post some more pics once ive got it on the road. I will shift to the projects forum once i have some juicy pics. I reckon a bird drapped accross the bonnet will attract some attention!! Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Is an engine conversion on the cards at all? If so, it might be worthwhile doing something different to everyone else out there, the 4A conversion has been done to death in my opinion. I'm looking at doing a 7A (FE or GE, not sure yet) conversion to my next KE (or Billie if my g/f will give it up/allow it), just because it's different and I've got a bit of a history with the engine Quote
jdhwiley Posted September 22, 2006 Author Report Posted September 22, 2006 Yeah, Engine work is on the cards the stock job that currenty haunts the rolla is very ordinary, but in saying that she paints 11s very well. I will take pics as i do work on it. thanks for your interest J Quote

My next car id definately a square headder 55 coupe. :P Yeah I'm in Bris, sux when the parts are in Ipswich. Spent 2 hrs on Saturday digging in the crud out there for stuff. The KE55xx is rare as hens teeth now. I couldnt find parts in Bris. The corolla who is now named"Steve" ( steve austin, this one has been rebuilt better and stronger) is at the mechanics getting the check over for RWC. Lets hope "Steve" makes it or at least gets a couple of new bits. Quote

Sorry to disapoint but "Steve" is going Black. There are no black KE55xx out there( well not in Brisbane that ive have seen) I'm going to get 16" black and chrome mags for it. Thats just after i lower it, Ive found that TTF in Bris does a good deal on kings, fitted. Quote

Any one notice that the KE55xx hardtop resembles the GTS Manaro that came out a few years before. I spotted one on the cover of the latest,( i think ) Street Machines? Its a metalic Orange and chrome. Also the if ya seen gone in 60 seconds the mustang has spun me some ideas Quote
ancullen Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Maybe if you look at the car at just the right angle it may have some similarities with the HK/HT/HG Monaro, but not very many. I'd love to get a KE30/55 two-door sedan and go the gloss black with KE30 chrome bumpers and KE55 square headlight grille. Your's would make a good base for a coupe version. I can see this car turning out very nicely, although I don't know if I agree with 16's and superlows, but hey, it's your car. Quote
anastasios Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 lol nah i don't think it looks like a monaro, we all wish though, i sometimes think it looks like a ferrari then i wake up...i still reckon black wont stand out on a small corolla Quote

I don't fancy the number plate lights, so i am hunting for an alternative. What do ya suggest then with the suspension? Quote
