LINDSAY Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Hi all , Does anybody know if i can use a AFM loom on a engine that i think is a MAP sensed one ? Basically i bought the engine and the loom from two different sources , the engine i think is a MAP sensed because it has the fitting in the plenum with 3 x vacuum nipples coming out of it but it didn't come with the MAP sensor and the guy i bought the loom off says he beleives its a AFM sensed loom . any help appriciated thanks , Lindsay Quote
Medicine_Man Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 You can change between MAP and AFM looms as long as the motors are identical (ie. I've changed my AFM AW11 motor to run a MAP AE82 loom and ecu). Just you will need to do a bit of chopping and changing of the harness. But if you want to leave it as AFM just block off the vacuum nipples and connect up the AFM gear.. Hope I didn't confuse you.. Quote
LINDSAY Posted September 18, 2006 Author Report Posted September 18, 2006 Hey thanks Medicine_Man , no not confused . so did you need to change the ecu or will they do both MAP and AFM applications? , any benefit of having one or the other ? Quote
Medicine_Man Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Yes, You have to change the ECU according to what fuel metering you wish to use (AFM/MAP). They require different sensors between the 2 so you can't just plug an AFM ecu in to a MAP engine loom.. Apparently you can run bigger cams on a 4AGE motor that uses an AFM without having to get an aftermarket computer. I recon AFM is shitty though, Thats why I changed to MAP. But at the end of the day it still does the job.. Quote
caibs Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 ay mate, exactly what vacuum nipples are you talking about? my old motor was ae92 afm 4agze, the new motor is ae101 map 4agze but I'm still using the old ecu and wiring. we got her running but it wont idle & runs shitty. could very well be air leaks causing the problems.. LINDSAY Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 the on on the right , goes to the MAP sensor ? i think Quote
Medicine_Man Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 Yeah, MAP sensor or any other VSV (Vacuum Switching Valve) that requires vacuum to function.. Quote
Jono Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 hey lindsay i have a MAP ECU and loom with sensors (its only missing the TPS) if you want it. Quote
LINDSAY Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 hey lindsay i have a MAP ECU and loom with sensors (its only missing the TPS) if you want it. thanks mate but i think i have it sorted for now , but i may get back to you on it . hows your beast coming along ? ( i'll go have a look at the thread ) Quote
