Trendact Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Neil Bates brother Rick is to replace Guest and drive for Ford for Rally of Melbourne. Maybe he wil show up Guest and get a drive with Ford next year ;) Could mean that the Bates workshop here in Canberra will become a Toyota/ Ford workshop..........then maybe not. Quote
dysolve Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 the bates workshop would be uhlikly to change. Since they have the rights to produce the 4wd corolla I do not think toyota would like that to much and bates more then likley makes a fair amount from doing this. Quote
irokin Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 Isnt there a new class or something thats going to be RWD and N/A? I remember hearing something about it but I don't remember much. Perhaps hes just doing it to get a bit of hands on experience with something similar? Quote
ancullen Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 I remember Colin McRae said he thought that WRC shouldn't be 2.0L turbo 4WD's, but instead RWD N/A, and I think he said he thought the capacity should be higher. But I didn't know anyone was considering it. As for Toyota and Ford, I don't know if they've got anything to do with it, but Prodrive, which runs the Ford Performance Racing team and is heavily involved in FPV, will also be heavily involved in TRD Australia, so the whole Ford & Toyota thing isn't that far fetched, but does still seem unlikely. But I didn't know anyone was considering it. Thats probably so it wouldn't be as fast, and therefore less likely for him to crash it.... Quote
Trendact Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) Guest has lost his licence for 3 months due to speeding that's why Rick is driving for Ford this weekend. Word around the traps is that in testing Rick has set faster times then Guest and has identified the problems with the car, something Guest has not done and Ford is not happy. This is the word going around but is yet to be confirmed. If true then Rick maybe in a good position to get a drive with Ford next year one would think. There was talk last year about a 2wd class at ARC level but this will be a few years of yet, I think Rally Sport Magazine touched on it once last year that it could be in the wind.
