chrisandliz[RL] Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 i'm having tramp problems with my t18, i have a 4 link. so i google "axle tramp" from what i gather the problem is the wheels are putting too much ummm force/torque on the diff and it wants to turn around. this pushes the diff up and brakes traction and the shockies push the wheel down. and the cycle starts agian, so you get tramp. In a nut shell, the way to help is to have all nolathane rear end and stiffen up the leaf springs and get some new shockies. 4 link is a little more compelx, i got my head around it (i think) it is mostly about the angle of the links. a standard hight car is less likely to have tramp, because the links are at the right angles. If you lower it the angles are wrong and the axle can twist and then tramp. putting heveayer springs can mask it but will not stop tramp. droping the lower link bracket down so that the link bar is parallel agian will most often "do the trick" hope this helps if you have 2 cents to add go for it, i'm all ears (all eyes really) Thanks Chris Quote
Raven Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 Adjustable lower trailing arms will fix that tramp problem too. Quote
beerhead Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 You can build a slapper bar that looks something like this, they seem to work well in drag car's, though it's a bit crude. Here's some other ways people fix the problem, ravens on the money, a lower arm is one of the best solutions. Lower control arms Quote
irokin Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 errm...is it just me or is that slapper bar on the wrong way round? the shockies push the wheel down Being picky but springs push, shockies dampen. Quote

beerhead Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 Hmm, I dunno, the other slappers I've seen are the same, but logically it does seem to be round the wrong way eh. :D Quote

It seems logical to have them that way to me?? Quote
beerhead Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 maybe they're for spark shows :D Quote
NickZ Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 Welcome to the world of leaf spring rear ends. Ive done heaps of diffrent setups and have been trying not to go to tramp bars, but nothing i have done works, I think mostly its lowering blocks that do it. I'm using 7 leafs with good koni adjustable shocks, its hard in the rear almost unmovable. Also using sticky toyo proxy ra1. it still tramps bad. irokin has the best and fun idea, just put shit tires back on. Those tramp bars are definitely the wrong way around. Quote
muller Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 I also thought that along with what you guys are sayin that shaged shocks wont help either Quote
OKE055 Posted September 16, 2006 Author Report Posted September 16, 2006 (edited) shocks are less than 3000km old but they are monroes so i'm getting a set of koni's this week have seen a guy about making some tramp bars up and he said that he done a lot of car with axle tramp problems and said new shocks will minimise the tramp but not elimenate he also agrees with the lowing of the car contributing to it......... the pinion angle is wrong and trying to turn the diff overhence the tramp only solution for me is the tramp bars..... but don't know if it will they be done it time for jamboree fingers crossed... if not hopefully the koni's will help any helpyou could give me "NickZ" with a part number or what the konis also fit as koni don't list the ke55 Edited September 16, 2006 by OKE055 Quote
