turbo_rolla Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 Hey guys, searched for about 1/2 an hour and thought i had my answer, but it wasnt quite :y: Got a k50 ready to go into my ke70 CS, and just wanted to know whether this is a STRAIGHT swap with the 4 speed (ie clutch, housings etc - everything)? If it is, a one word answer (ie yes) is all that is required. If not, could you please elaborate? I have researched (ie bout the ke55 k50's coming up short with gearstick etc), but didnt find what i wanted (searched k50, k50 conversion, k50 swap, ke70 k50 etc etc). Thanks in advance :P Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted September 8, 2006 Report Posted September 8, 2006 As far as I know Yes. As long as you have a ke70 k50. If you have a ke55 k50 your going to have to carve a hole in your floor pan. Quote
turbo_rolla Posted September 9, 2006 Author Report Posted September 9, 2006 Sweet, thanks mate. It is a ke70 K50 so should be alright then! will give it a crack today then! thanks again :P Quote
Robert Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Straight swap, i did one the other day. :P Quote
anastasios Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Yep it is a straight swap i've done it into my brothers 70 Quote
Old-Skool-Rolla Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 what about if you have a KE55, and want a K50, would it be better to get a KE55 K50 or is the KE70 one better?? Quote
Robert Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 KE70 ones have a better shifter position IMO, but you will have to cut a new whole for the shifter in a KE5x unless it was previously auto. They also usually have less kms on them. Cheers, Rob Quote
turbo_rolla Posted September 9, 2006 Author Report Posted September 9, 2006 Thanks guys! put it in this afternoon and there werent any problems at all. EVERYTHING mated up to where it was previously, so very happy (mate copped a tailshaft on the head when it dropped down out of place so he wasnt happy :P ). Only difference was one/two wires that didnt have anywhere to plug into (but did with the k40), but it all runs fine and all lights appear to work (ie reverse) Compared my k40 with his out of hit ke30 and looks like they're different as well with the gearstick position. I agree with robert though...ke70 version of the k50 has a nice stick position. depends if you wanna go cutting though as to whether you want this "nice stick location" box. Box i got was very clean though and runs well (thanks truenosedan :y:). very happy with the swap :fuzz: Thanks to all those who posted! Quote
mattress Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Instead of starting a new topic i thought i would ask here. Which K50 gives the furtherest back position? I have a 4K in a KE10 and want to change to a 5 speed. The current stick position is rather a long way forward and i would like it back somewhat. Any info is appreciated... Quote
irokin Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Agreed, KE70 K50 has the longest extension housing of the K boxes. Quote
Raven Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 I'm gonna stick with my original shifter position as I have monkey arms and its easy for me to reach for the gears. Thats when I get a chance/some help to fit it all up :P Quote
Bazooka Posted September 14, 2006 Report Posted September 14, 2006 Just a little note. The rear extension housings can be swapped between the KE70 and KE55 5 speed gearboxes to change the shifter position. I did exactly this in using an AE70 gearbox with a KE55 extension housing to move the shifter further forward. Quote
