sleepercorty Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 just wondering what is involved as i will be doing the conversion next week just to save some time if someone has done it before. putting ke 55 booster and bigger mastercylinder on, just wonderng what else i need to do i have heard everything bolts up just worried about the strut tops what to use if the corona shocks fit the corolla strut tops or not. any help appreciated Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 I know of a guy who is doing this conversion next week, once he is done, I am sure he will write up a good "How to" guide for anyone else to use ;) Quote
beerhead Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I'm building XT130 coilovers atm. Everything does bolt up, but without shortening the strut even with KE55 superlows it'll have a standard ride height. The springs don't sit in the seat's properly either, i'd reccomend getting custom springs made with a corona base and a KE55 top on them. Biggest killer without modding the strut is it's shocky travel. I'm lopping them down 40mm and using SV21 gas camry inserts to get the shocky travel correct. The tops definitely fit. I'll post some pic's of the progress in a week or so. Quote
anastasios Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Would anyone know whether KE55 strut tops fit onto an AE86 shock? That would save alot of hassle in the future Quote
beerhead Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 I've never tried but, I've heard that KE70 strut tops fit on an AE86 and I've run KE70 front struts in a KE55. My SV21 camry shocks have a big bore and are machined down at the top end to around a 10mm threaded end, which mates with the KE55 top. Seems like toyota have the same size strut top bearing on alot of there cars. Quote
anastasios Posted September 9, 2006 Report Posted September 9, 2006 Thanks mate, yea i was thinking about using 86 coilovers in my 55 as it is a bit easier in the brake upgrade department aswell! Quote
sleepercorty Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 just wondering if anyone has any progress on there conversions as i still havent got my car yet and am trying to get everthing ready for when it arrives, i looked up at work and the control arm bushes are the same and so are the ball joints are the same, but what ive heard u still have to use the corona cortrol arms as they must be different length. apart from that just wondering if anyone has found out anymore about springs to use? cuzzo Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 My coil-overs have been welded onto the Xt130 struts with adjustable damper shocks. (KYB AGX) can't wait to ty them out. Quote
sleepercorty Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 brakes are on and working, so heres a list for those that want to know this was xt 130 brakes onto ke30. u need corona control arms and full strut at the bottom everything fits nice the corona control arms go straight in, u have to use them as they are longer that the corolla ones. swaybar and strut bar also fit straight up. u need to use corolla strut tops as the corona ones are bigger the shocks fit straight up to the corolla strut tops so easy there. the only bits u need to modify are brake hoses (i just made some at work) and had to modify springs i used the corona ones so they fit in the bottom of the strut, i cut two coils of the springs and they still stay captive just. the tops of springs are different diameter the corona ones are about 5mm wider at the top, and don't fit the corolla strut tops, so i used the oxy and heated the top coil of the spring and bent it in a couple of mm. fits nice now and give a nice low hight. i also used ke55 booster as they are bigger and a 13/16 pbr master cylinder. gets realy good pedal feel. hope this helps pther people. size difference corolla rotors are 218mm corona ones are 266mm so a massive size difference.
