oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Probably the wrong site for this, but anyway..... its in a rolla. Recently my car developed a miss in the top end, about 6500-7000rpm. The motor is a sr20de (non turbo)with a gt28rs mounted on it, and 11 pound of boost. These motors run 9.5:1 compression. Any way, the problem persisted, and slowly started to do it further down in the revvs. Meanwhile I'm still revving it to 7000rpm, and attempting to ignore the problem. :y: :y: Anyways,i went and saw my tuner yesterday, and apparently the motor was getting as lean as 16s on the gas anyliser (excessively lean!), so lean that it was missing in the top end, which to me combined with 9.5 comp, 7000rpm, and less than turbo friendly pistons, is a miracle, that it is still together. So far anyway. The problem turned out to be a dying fuel pump, and all is apples now.Igotta say though, that is one up for the sr20!!!!!! :y: I doubt it will survive POWERCRUISE this weekend, I just hope it waits till near the end, preferably the burnout comp. ;) Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 haha good to hear. Maybe next time it develops a miss you will look into it straight away Quote
beerhead Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Let's hope you don't need a new bonnet when it lets go ;) You gonna camp the whole weekend? Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 5, 2006 Author Report Posted September 5, 2006 I think i will go down friday night, maybe go in the burnouts that night, and stay till sunday (motor permitting). I have a heap of detailing to do between now and then!!! Quote
beerhead Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Wikid, will have to get down there for a day, just gotta decide which one. Quote
mattress Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 I was supposed to be going down friday with a mate of mine who has hired a shed and is camping there the whole weekend. Sadly i have to work friday but will surely make it down, most likely saturday. Hopefully i'll go for a track run with him. The car is a purple R100, plates 69 UFO has featured once or twice in magazines... Quote
muller Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 (edited) If it does make it to the burnouts, can you get some video? Would make for some sweet viewing letting go and taking your bonnet off ;) Edited September 5, 2006 by muller Quote
irokin Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Ive never seen an uncontained failure of an SR20....theyre pretty unspectacular when they go. Melted piston, screwed bearings, siezed up....never seen things poking new viewing windows. Quote
Raven Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 SR20DE's fail. My mate, constantly drifting and sitting on the rev limiter, managed to kill two of his lifters (inlet cam, piston's 3 & 4) which then chewed away the cam shaft. He changed the lifters and the timing dropped. Guess what happened when he started it..... Quote
irokin Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 SR20DE's fail. I don't dispute that...they just don't have bits flying all over the place. A "contained" failure Quote
Raven Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 Oh i've seen uncontained too. Rattle, rattle, rattle - piston through one side of the block, conrod through the other. It died a nasty death. Nice SR20DET it WAS. I guess the $16,500 engine rebuild to make it nice and bullet-proof was worth it. Hasnt had a problem since! ;) Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted September 6, 2006 Author Report Posted September 6, 2006 Of course they fail! If you give anything enough abuse it WILL fail. Ive just been lucky so far..... ;) If anyone comes to powercruise, come an say hello, my names matt. You may get a ride too if ya want, my mate is bringing his all alloy 600hp v8 vs, so i dare say he will free up seats in my car!! Quote
Killswitch Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 SR20's don't like to stay too long at/near the redline due to their lifters in factory form do they? Quote
Death By Bass Posted September 6, 2006 Report Posted September 6, 2006 don't be supprised if the engine dies in a few months Quote
