Another suggestion is maybe setting up a voting system? have like a thumbs up icon and thumbs down so before people even go into the thread they can see if its going to be bad or good since other members may have already rated it, and if its got too much thumbs down then either have moderators delete.

Its a possibility. With the karma system thats been in the works, perhaps we just show the persons karma beside their name in the forum view rather than rate each individual thread?

i also saw the other suggestion of 50 posts before creating threads, i do see both sides to this story but i also see it being very inefficient. because there are some of us (myself included) that do as much researching as possible and then resort to asking questions here when desired. i don't think i have had 50 posts yet but ive still managed to start threads which were unique, so in the end i would not approve of taking that approach.

Totally agree. Just looking back through your created threads and you would be a prime example of someone penalised because of the blanket rule. My guess is you wouldnt've waited around till 50 posts...

another option is to suspend people, if they have posted say for example 2 or 3 threads and they are utter crap like will a 4age 20v fit in my kexx or AExx. then you could suspend them from posting new threads for a week. i see my ideas requiring alot of computing effort tho on the moderators behalf. but it could help solve the issue.

The only problem I see with this is that its an Admin only action. While there are 4 of us, we're not always here to do these things. It would also mean taking time away from other projects that need attention. We can allow moderators to suspend however they can only suspend ALL of a users posting ability.

Ive no problem moderating terrible threads...

What about the other three?

What is this karma system i read about, just an idea or something coming into play?

....and by the way people, 50 post minimum was just a random number. you could lower the limit to say 20 or so to get rid of the lazy people and hopefully be low enough for interesting contributors to stay around.

I can see and understand all sides of the situation in question and there are pro's and con's for all sides.

I think that perhaps the biggest problem here is trying to solve it in one simple go. If it were simple it would have been done already. Why not incorporate a couple of the ideas for the greater good of the club?

-Post minimum to rid the exceptionally lazy people, 10 even? (Admin descretsion)

-Make the rules more clear and concise

-Make the search button larger

-Use that gas chamber

Also importantly, i don't know what peoples warn percentages are at so i can't see how strict admin is but it would seem that they/you are too soft. Step on some toes and if people don't like it they should have thought about it after there first warning, not start winging as they are being banned/suspended.

I apoligise for such a long post but i am also wondering what the actuall point is of the post counters? Does my cool-ness multiply with each 100 posts i get? or is it a game to get to the top of the post whore pyramid? Or is it simply just an un written rank? I have 300 and something and i don't give a shit!!

4 Admin + 7 Moderators + 16 Forum specific moderators

Something thats "in the works". Just have to find time to code, implement and test. I don't think its as hard as it sounds.

I don't think its a matter of simplicity, more that we havent had such an influx of new members asking the same stupid questions before. The few that used to trickle through were easily dealt with case by case.

-Post minimum to rid the exceptionally lazy people, 10 even? (Admin descretsion) still don't like the idea :/

-Make the rules more clear and concise Maybe a "quick reference rules, I'm not keen on trimming them down, they need to be somewhat comprehensive

-Make the search button larger try posting a new topic and see what happens :(

-Use that gas chamber hey its only a forum, no need to go silly now

There are very few people that ever make it to 40%. I think about three or four. The record is 11 warns...

We can start cracking down hard, but is that really the environment we want? We went through a period of over moderation last year from memory. It wasnt nice for the general users and resulted in a noticeable lack of posting everywhere! I really don't want to go so far as to warn everyone for every little insignifigant incident. Then youve got to try and back it up with consistancy. "I was warned for that, but you didnt warn him!"

I did this to another forum I worked for. It was surprisingly effective. People could still see their post count in their profile, but it removed the "e-penis on display" kind of effect. I personally don't give a shit about my post count, or anyone elses for that matter.

Wow, every idea shot down in flames :( but i get what your saying.

I'm just throwing up possibilities for everyone to sift through and think about. But at the end of the day its up to the four administrative staff.

But tighter policing should be considdered, but not just throwing weight around sort of thing.

yeh irokin i don't think id wait for 50 posts it would get too hard, because the time you wish to find out information is the time you can post anything unless its in someone elses thread and then people will probably get a bit angry with the topic change. and there is also the point you mentioned about people will just write irrelevant crap to get there 50 posts. thats just how i see it though.

hopefully people just learn and not ask dumb and repetitive questions, but doubt that will happen as there are alot of people that are lazy and want the simple option.

your idea about giving people a ranking of negative and positive is a fairly good idea. but idealy its up to you admin and moderators.

Good luck

I'm glad that there will be a 'karma' rating. Should be interesting to see what effect it has. I think the post count (and e-penis should remain). I like m e-penis the way it is and don't want it circumcised. But seriously, if someone has good karma and a high post count, people may find it easier to find the helpful threads that person has contributed to (eg. they can just search for that user's posts).

That idea is possibly the best idea that I've heard in this thread. Perhaps if there have been... three (?) more negative comments than positive (or perhaps a percentage) there could be a thumbs down. The problem would still be there, but rather than the whole demographic of members suffering, the first few would. It could work...

Keep up the good work fellas :(

i think that topics that have reached 3 months without any replies should automatically get closed so it is a read only thread...

with stupid threads can't you just delete them alltogether?

Here's an idea but I don't know if it can be done.

Say after 3 months, the thread becomes "suspended" and anything else that gets posted into that thread while its in suspension, gets reviewed by one of the admin staff and only then if its acceptable shall the thread come out of suspension until it is inactive for another 3 months and it becomes automatically suspended again?

Hope that makes sense haha.
