I do agree to a point Teddy, you seem to have hit a breaking point though, and I'm not convinced its only this site thats made you hit that.

You always need to look at both sides of an argument, rather than just whinging about something, so you can come to a solution. Alot of the time in my experience here, I have found the existing members to think that everyone else is an idiot. I am generalising here, and I'm not trying to be rude.

You can't expect everyone to know where the search button is. Some people are generally not internet intelligent. I had to scroll up and look twice to find it, and I run a web site/forum.

I totally agree with Muller. Do a sub 50 post ban. They can signup, and read and reply, but not create new threads. after 50 posts, they are definitely wanting to be here to contribute to the community.

And whilst they have no new threads to reply to, they can find the search button :y:

My fear then would be that we end up with a nissansilvia style problem where people go around making posts that try to look relevant but all theyre doing is trying to get their post count up so they can use the for sale area. Would perhaps involve the moderators cracking down on any garbage postings in the first 50.

I'll make a massive SEARCH banner thisarvo and see if people can miss that :y:

well someone had to say it......also a tip, I'm not a fan of the currnet technical sub forum. Too many to look thru just to share my wealth, so why not generalise it a bit more? After all, a corolla is a corolla :D

I agree with Biggo that there are too many technical forums. There really aren't so many topics created that they couldn't be kept within one general area.

Keeping a closer eye on n00b's is definitely a good idea, and this task should be given to a set group of responsible members (whether they be moderators or not). Region Leaders should also take a strong lead in doing this when they notice a member from their area asking silly things. For this reason it should also be enforced that people put their location in when signing up.

too quick - yes you did ask some annoying questions - specifically in the NT area when you aren't an NT member and there hadn't been any discussion relating to what you were asking. Your first question already had the answer available (as you would have found out if you'd read the info in the link I posted), but you still asked, then you went off on a tangent asking questions with answers available elsewhere. It wasn't appreciated. :endrant:

Most importantly, I think that the rules should be streamlined as much as possible. Shorten each rule, and try to reduce the total number of rules, eg:

Keep it on topic, If you can't contribute to the topic at hand please don't post. Threads that get out of hand are usually moved to the off-topic area and offenders may recieve warnings as admin/moderators see fit. Occasionally they are deleted completely.

Before starting a new topic do a search where nessicary to see if its been covered before. If you can't be bothered to help yourself, neither can we. You may recieve warnings if you don't search.

Could become:

Stay on topic and search to see that your topic hasn't been covered before.

I think that if there was a set of just 10-20 main rules, that are easy to read, and very easy to refer to, then anyone that doesn't abide by them has more reason to be punished straight away. I read the new rules when they were released, simply because I felt that I should, but I definitely didn't find it a pleasurable experience. If I'd just joined the club I know I wouldn't bother reading them as I'd be too keen to get posting. I definitely didn't read the rules before my first post when I initially joined up.

The only reason I wrote the rules as big as they are is that I was trying to be comprehensive (albeit I have missed things that will be added in future editions). Ive got a few ideas floating around in my head that I'll get down in writing tonight hopefully.

Sub 50 posts is too much for the posting limitations, I've known plenty of members that do have sub-50 posts that make relavent, thoughtful and helpful comments to the threads they post in. Perhaps just withdrawal their topic starting rights for the 50? Then they can just ask questions, supply answers etc etc.

?

Or we could just use a gas chamber..

The thing you need to keep in mind is that not everyone that signs up is a complete idiot. I know if I signed up now with some of these suggestions I just wouldnt bother and move on to another forum...

Actually Dan, all I was suggesting is that. They can still reply and comment, just not start new topics.

And Ben, we have had the 20 post minimum to post in for sale/wanted for almost a year now. And we have alot less dickheads for it. Thats why I believe it works. We also have alot less members signing up, but thats because thats all they were signing up to do.

No thats not normal.

You should not need to click the links - they are there as a prompt only.

And for my money a damn annoying one - it should get the point across.

For Irokin.....

Ben you you make it so it only appears under a certain post count ??

I can try....Its still beta :( It should ONLY show when you create a new topic. If you get it anywhere but creating a new topic PM me with the FULL URL (inclulding GET form variables)

There was a bug with it showing up when you hit "reply to post" but that should be fixed now.

I think its a big double edged sword. We cut down on newbeh postings but If an experienced person comes here, wants to share information but can't they will go elsewhere without blinking an eye. Ive no problem moderating terrible threads...

One other suggestion is stop the off topic crap in threads.

All the extra crap makes it harder for ANYBODY to find information, takes so much longer to find the answers, Ive noticed it alot in my region.

can we just have one thread in the region for total offtopic crap be made and people stick to that thead for your chats.

I know the moderators etc have alot to do, but someone needs to be deleting the crap and giving the offenders a smack.:(

hey guys,

i see where all of you guys are coming from, even though ive only been using this forum for the past couple of months i always search google and the forums for relevant topics and then if cannot find anything ill post the topic, (i don't think ive been one of those repetitive posters, but if i have let me know).

Another suggestion is maybe setting up a voting system? have like a thumbs up icon and thumbs down so before people even go into the thread they can see if its going to be bad or good since other members may have already rated it, and if its got too much thumbs down then either have moderators delete.

i also saw the other suggestion of 50 posts before creating threads, i do see both sides to this story but i also see it being very inefficient. because there are some of us (myself included) that do as much researching as possible and then resort to asking questions here when desired. i don't think i have had 50 posts yet but ive still managed to start threads which were unique, so in the end i would not approve of taking that approach.

another option is to suspend people, if they have posted say for example 2 or 3 threads and they are utter crap like will a 4age 20v fit in my kexx or AExx. then you could suspend them from posting new threads for a week. i see my ideas requiring alot of computing effort tho on the moderators behalf. but it could help solve the issue.

this was my 2 cents worth for today. :(
