Redwarf Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) The thing that all new drivers need is as many road hours in all conditions that they can possibly get. Education is the key. Any courses you can afford are even better. I've seen the stats for deaths for young male drivers, and they are SERIOUSLY not good. It seems to stem from a mismatch between ambition and talent. I support any initiative that tries of improve the education of new drivers. *Joins Nick for beer after standing down from soap box.* Edited August 16, 2006 by Redwarf Quote
Dan Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Haha, in WA you've only got to have your L's for three months before you can sit for your P's, however you've gotta be 17 to get your P's (moped P's at 16 though). I think that we're currently going from 25 hours to 50 hours though. As soon as you hit 16 in WA, you can start driving on the road (stage 1 L's) which is bloody awesome. There was also talk of a curfew (midnight-6am) which I think passed legislation. I think we also brought in a no V8 or forced induction motor rule. They can bring in the two years; if they make it so you can start driving at 15 :y: that'd rock... Anyway... still a while to go yet... Quote

Agghh. . . No way, that would be so bad. Not only would the accident rate triple but imagine waiting for 2 years to get your P's, knowing that you could drive already. Quote
HEKTIC Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I herd a rumor that in Tasmainia it could remain 12months but they would make you do 150hours miniumum!!! But as it stands at the moment in Tasmainia most people just do around 40hours and lie about the rest. (to make it up to 50hours) Quote
Chet Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 yeah, SA has just (well since october 31st) changed law for p1, p2 and different approach to learners, but i heard that there is new laws coming in october 31st this year as well including a curfew for P1 drivers where you can't have any passenger under age of 21 after 11 or 12 midnight.. i heard this from a fairly reliable soruce... internet and friends. Old-Skool-Rolla Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 i havent read all the reply's so it may have been said already. I went to RTA when i got my l's (only about 2-3 months ago) and asked the lady if these romurs were true, because i was also worried about them. She said it was all just stories, that had been blown out of proportion, and that no of these rules were even being considered to be introduced. The only rule that has chnged for L and P platers, is the performance one. THATS IT. For any new romours you may hear, give it atleast 6 months, and then MAYBE start to think about it. Because it will never happen. Quote
Jason Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 eh i got my p's so i don't care if they change it but from my point of veiw it is a good idear because all th f@$kwits in my grade got cornflake licencses (sorry 4 spelling using viral kybord) Quote
Raven Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 I'd been driving since I was 13, took to the hills for 2 years with my old man when i was 14. I got my L's at 16.5 years of age, did my logbook while on my P's when I was 17 (10 things marked off in the first lesson) and 6 lessons in total to obtain my full licence at 19 years of age. Never once have I had an accident that involved another car, but gutters and general stupid behaviour is the cause of some minor damage to my cars I've had in the past. Sometimes, its not your own driving ability you have to worry about, its the other people on the road. Quote
Redwarf Posted September 3, 2006 Report Posted September 3, 2006 I fascinates me that some people think that forging their log books is a good thing. Have you ever stopped to think that it may be a good thing they're making you do?? So, after 30-40 hours you consider that you can drive? Or even 50? That's just so your not completely out of your depth when you hit the road on your own. I've been driving 16 years and I'm still learning...... Quote
casey Posted September 3, 2006 Author Report Posted September 3, 2006 you will be learning in another 16 years if every thing goes as pland  my mum and i think that my only problem in learning is i will be too confident, hopfully not Quote
