jay_rolla Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 (edited) Hey I'm jay, proud owner of a 1990 AE92 corolla se running on a stock 4afc. What would be the most basic/easiest/cheap/effective mods be for a rookie such as myself? I'm thinking about working a bit on both interior and exterior a bit just to start off but mainly a few basic mods under the bonnet. Any advice/pointers on this model? Des Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 (edited) welcome to rollaclub extractors and good air intake makes a little differance and a good exhaust all the way threw. 4age 16v, 4agze, 4age 20v conversion whatever floats ya boat. you might not have this problem but i did with my 4afc.it wouldnt turn over for very long and on really cold mornings the battery went flat very quick, i upgrated my battery don't have a problem now. MYSTIK[RL] Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 welcome aboard rollaclub sorry to burst ur bubble but the se had a 6afc not a 4afc (unless of course the 6a was replaced at some stage) oh and yes i'll agree with to quick on the other mods. but i will add to do ur suspension and make it handle. :y: Quote

And what size rims would be suitable for this car? np jay. the 4afc is a 1.6 and, the 6afc is a 1.4 rims well u have a large selection from 14's up to 17's (although there are rollas out there with 18's :y:) Quote
rolla_4 Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Welcome to Rolla club.... arent all Corolla owners proud? :D My understanding of the rules in SA at least says that you can go up to 2 sizes bigger than stock. Stock AE92's only came out stock with 13's and 14's from memory so the 17's I thought would be out! Do you know something I don't MYSTIK ( In relation to wheel sizes anyway :y: ). It will probably vary from state to state so depending on where you are the rules change. It might be worth adding location to your profile so people can answer accordingly. As for a 6afc...were they a bit of a rarity over here in the AE92? I can't remember ever seeing a 1.4 AE92. Quote
jay_rolla Posted August 17, 2006 Author Report Posted August 17, 2006 ahh i see.. I'm situated in melbourne, vic. Does anyone know the whereabouts of finding 4age engines? Quote
hobart_ae92 Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 They don't make superlows anymore Kings lows are fine... Big rims and low springs don't match, especially on FWD rollas.. oh boohoo u made me cry... :y: . a new engine is prob the right way to go, but remember it's more than just the engine you'll have to change! I've put in a bit so far with the 4afc and it's ok but it's gonna take longer again to get the results that i want... doesn't help when i've got a rattly cat :D . Quote

Big rims and low springs don't match, especially on FWD rollas.. thats the 1st ive herd of it. do you know why?.anywho back to the topic.superlows were way to low in my 82, the tire was hitting the inner gaurd lots and the shocks were bottoming out all the time.looked sweet but it drove s**t :( Quote

Sirolla[RL] Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 (edited) G'day Jay, welcome to rollaclub. I've got an AE90 SE running a 6AF carby engine. Because i didn't have a budget for a conversion, so all i did was replaced the standard carby with a weber 32/36 and a 2" straight Through exhaust. As for future plans power wise, none, unless i go for a conversion. I've got low king springs added, superlow wouldn't be recommended if you hate the sound of scraping over speed bumps. As for my interior, is mainly stock, but added my own 2 12's and front 6" splits. All that i need is some new wheels, currently still running stock 13s which is kinda sad, but you get that. You can find my ride in the projects section. Cheers, Daven Edited August 24, 2006 by Sirolla Quote
