Rollin-Rolla Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 (edited) hey guys, i know ive spoken before about my rolla and putting the SR into it, so i thought its time i should put some pics up, yesterday the engine mounts were completed. ill let the pics do the talking from here: first day i got my ke70, knocked on some ladies door and offered her $200, it had head problems. she was going to give it to a wrecker. How useful the standard motor has become. its still in the wheel burrow to this day The day i brought the SR home. The engine mounts. Edited August 13, 2006 by Rollin-Rolla Quote

Rollin-Rolla Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 yeh thanks teddy, i had to do what i could to prevent it goin to a wrecker, it was just sheer luck that when i was looking for ke70's that this lady had it out the front of her house. its also lucky that my grandma lived next door otherwise i would have missed it. good to go tho now. gearbox mount is to be made this weekend then motor is good to go for supporting itself that is. ill keep this thread informed Quote
HEKTIC Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 this thing will fly i can't wait to see how it turns out Quote
Rollin-Rolla Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 oh yeh definately look forward to destruction. here are a few plans for the short future some of you may look forward to seeing: GT3071R turbo, already got the manifold for it. Larger injectors around 700cc LSD Borg Warner diff conversion these are the main things I'm going to be doing, so far I'm just messing around with the struts and doing a brake conversion, in the end ill be aiming for around 300rwkW, but ill settle for a little under between 260-300 will make me a happy man. itll be hard to put the power to the ground but that doesnt really bother me. car will still look tuff. any questions feel free to ask. HEKTIC Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 what are u building this car for? dorifto? Quote
Rollin-Rolla Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) nuh car is being built to own people on the street. I'm not much into drifto. I'm more of a straight line kind of person. i look forward to seeing reactions on the street tho. i can already picture the commodore P platers trying to line me up. itll be insane. although i am having a bit of a dilema, see i know i said above I'm gonna get gt3071 turbo, but i was contemplating goin with the gt2871R so i wont have to change manifold and it would still be good for about 250rwkW. i think I'm leaning more to GT30 though. its hard to say no to more power. ill also get it engineered, its expensive over here in adelaide tho, but i don't see why it wont pass, just gotta pass a few tests its engineerable to weld on cross member so I'm doing everything by the book at the moment. HEKTIC Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 hav u though about the gtrs? they were perpusley(i cannot spell) designed by hks for the sr20 and they will give you the best response for smoking vk commodores or the odd coona but the gtrs is pretty pricey ($2500 was the best price i could find and that was just for the turbo) Quote
Rollin-Rolla Posted August 16, 2006 Author Report Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) The GT2871R will toast the Disco Potato for breakfast performance wise You can also get the 2871R in a better A/R on the exhaust side yeh that was the 2871R that i came across, if i were to go for it that would be the one id buy, they used to be distributed by HKS at a stupidly high price, but garrett made that turbo for HKS since they didnt make there own, and the contract ran out on it, so Garrett is now making that exact turbo now and cheaper, i can get it from www.horsepowerinabox.com for 1950 with actuator. but i can get 3071R for same price with more power at 20 pound boost. ill get there first then decide what I'm gonna do. the exhaust manifold i have now i got from a mate of mine who will sell it to me if i want it. so I'm gonna see what happens. at the moment its looking like gt30. yeh the only thing though nick is that its not my daily, i have a stock 4k-c ke70 for my daily. no way would i ever be tempted to take it out in the wet. it is fairly fast tho. my mate has a 1985 blue bird wagon with sr in it that makes 350rwkW and ive been in that and it goes hard as f##k. mine wont go that hard but it will be fairly unit. you are thinking like i am tho, I'm gonna get the car running first (stock) make sure no problems etc. i havent had the motor running so, for all i know it could be pinging (hope bloody not), but I'm not a retard to slap on that much power and hope brakes and everything work, that would be dumb. once its done it wont just be for street, would like to run it at drags aswell. also i just bought Power FC for the sr20 so that should be substantial. irokin Posted August 16, 2006 Report Posted August 16, 2006 Or if youre on a budget a T28 off a GTiR pulsar. Largest of the factory T28s rated around 330hp. Theyre not ball bearing but were designed for rallying in the pulsars so theyre pretty tough. Picked mine up for $600 in excellent condition. Myself I would be going Stock as a rock SR20DET and learning how to drive the car with so much power first, getting all your suspension and braking right before starting to push power levels that high. Without racing slicks, 200RW KW will be borderline unstreetable for a daily driver Corolla... Yes yes, I know... FLAME SUIT ON... But you cannot honestly tell me that a 200RW KW 900-odd KG Corolla is safe/fun/practical to drive in wet city cycle driving... Totally agree. Need to make sure you can TURN and STOP before you GO. Even then a standard SR (130rwkw) is going to be a challenge. Quote

Garrett have copied it recently but from all reports I would put my money on the HKS turbo making slightly more power under the curve. Its probably negligable anyway... Quote

Its probably negligable anyway... well as i said earlier, Garrett make turbos for HKS, not a copy, garrett made it for them contract expired, which is why garrett made it and sell it for less. and if you don't believe do some research (not being arrogant or anything, just saying, cause I'm certain HKS don't make their turbos) Havent gotten to fuel pump stage yet. I'm taking it small steps so, my main concerns at the moment is struts and making my gearbox mount, as you can see ive already made the engine mounts so hopefully this weekend the gearbox mount will be done then i can go ahead and start doing some real stuff Edited August 16, 2006 by Rollin-Rolla Quote

There was someone doing independant comparisons on the same car however they never released results after the tests were complete. As they were trying to sell the garrett version Its my view that their tests DID NOT support the garrett version being "exactly the same" as the HKS version. Quote
