Nitephyre Posted October 15, 2006 Author Report Posted October 15, 2006 (edited) thermostat is fine... i don't think it's overflowing, but it is getting very hot... when i take the lid off the overflow steam comes out... i haven't gotten round to trying to fix the timing, rich running etc because i've been trying to get the heat issue solved.. and I haven't had the chance to come get that sender you said you have... actually I might sms you now see if you're home :) Edited October 15, 2006 by Nitephyre Quote
teza40 Posted October 15, 2006 Report Posted October 15, 2006 (edited) HI, I may be wrong but goin by my recent experience on my girl friends feroza 4x4 which boiled over 3 times in one week and was always spewing or losing coolant at a bad rate. may be do a compression test and see if any cylinders are suffering leakdown or poor compression first. but i ended up biting the bullet and taking the head off the feroza and found the head gasket had badly deteriated down the left hand side across the top of the open water jacket in the block, and the head was also eaten away in places on the alloy face. hence new head gasket, good second hand head and other new gaskets. put it back together twice( umm bent 2 inlet valves in pot 4.....lol). the feroza now runs cooler than it has ever done in the last 6 months of ownership. which = one very happy lady and me with more knowledge he he he. oh yeah and engines don't run good with timing on top dead centre,it is mostly running rich because it isnt set in correct advance. cheers Teza Edited October 15, 2006 by teza40 Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 16, 2006 Author Report Posted October 16, 2006 Well I swapped the temp sender over today that I got of Nicko yesterday. It seems to be reading better, but still around halfway, this was on a 10min drive probably. I did notice though that it's seemed to have drunk some coolant from the overflow bottle, I didn't know it can flow BACK into the radiator from there, or am I just seeing things (No, the bottle doesn't have a leak). Anyway, Nicko if you're not busy on Sunday, wanna come round and help me try to fix the timing/fueling issues, maybe that'll help temp as well... I'll pay ya in snags on the bbq :) Quote
teza40 Posted October 16, 2006 Report Posted October 16, 2006 hey nitephyre they do flow to and from the over flow bottle, well thats how the system works in the feroza.so you are not seeing things. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 oooh thats right, forgot about that car race... no problems, i'll just take it to my mechanic tomorrow, i'm running outta time :D Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 18, 2006 Author Report Posted October 18, 2006 (edited) well, it's tomorrow.. and guess what I find out this morning... MY MECHANIC HAS RETIRED :D It's a pity too, because he is a Toyota nut and specialist. SO, can anyone recommend a good mechanic around Northgate/Virgina/Toombul/Etc that they've used, Cheers, Matt ;) Edited October 18, 2006 by Nitephyre Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 18, 2006 Author Report Posted October 18, 2006 I swear, cars are out to f@$king piss me off just for fun... It's now running fine as of half way through tonight, not like a 3 cylinder... so i'm guessing there was some trash or bad fuel in the bottom of the tank which dissipated after I filled up. Thanks nick, that's good to know. Also, it's temp is now sitting on half way constantly, so I'm guessing that i've finally hit THAT nail on the head. GRRR, cars... gotta love them Quote
Redwarf Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 I use and recommend John Edwards Automotive, Cnr of Bilsen Rd and Virginia St. Nice bloke, honest as the day is long. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 19, 2006 Author Report Posted October 19, 2006 thanks guys, will keep them in mind :D Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 28, 2006 Author Report Posted October 28, 2006 OK, Since I can't find the info on the FAQ etc :) I need to know the timing settings for the 4AC rwd (in case it's different from fwd) other things like points gap etc would be superb. Cheers Quote
Raven Posted October 28, 2006 Report Posted October 28, 2006 Same timing specs. Should be 8 degrees BTDC :) Quote
Robert Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 5 degrees btdc at idle with dissy vac lines disconnected and plugged. Dwell is 51 i think. Get an electronic distributor from an AE82 and you will never have to set points again. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 29, 2006 Author Report Posted October 29, 2006 Now I'm f@$king angry again, ARGH! I replaced the points and rotor cap yesterday, left the old condenser on, as I realised i'd bought the wrong one. So I adjusted the timing slightly and the car ran 100% better as I went back to stupidcheap to get the right one. Once I get back home, I replace the condenser, realising that I had to remove the whole distributor to undo the screw to change the condenser. This is where I start to have problems again. Once i'd put everything back together how it had been, it then wasn't running properly and just conking out after struggling to start. Eventually I got jack of it and left it for the night. Go back to it this morning, and it'll crank over BUT IT'S NOT f@$kING STARTING!!.. I've pulled it all off, put the old stuff back on, put combinations of old/new on and put all the new stuff back on. I'm f@$king lost and have no idea what's wrong.. top it all off now it's my only car as i've deregistered the Century.. ARGH, f@$k CARS... Quote
Robert Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 have you got fibre washers behind your condenser? Or you may have the dissy in the wrong way. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 29, 2006 Author Report Posted October 29, 2006 using the washers which were there, just metal ones.. and the distributor only goes in one way, luckily :/ Quote
