Nitephyre Posted March 11, 2007 Author Report Posted March 11, 2007 (edited) Nup, no money for that and as it's my only car atm conversions are a no go :P I just need to know how to stop it smoking on the cheap and easy... ;) Edited March 11, 2007 by Nitephyre Quote
Trev Posted March 11, 2007 Report Posted March 11, 2007 Put some Penrite HPR30 in it an see how it goes, Sometimes oil additives are more of a problem than what you started with. Quote
Teddy Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Doest it give a bigish puff of oil when you start it up in the mornings / or after its been sitting for many hours ? I personally think it may be rings; by the small description thave you have given. Quick fix - another 4ac. Quote
Nitephyre Posted March 12, 2007 Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 Trev: cheers, I'll try that Matt: yeah, it does it on start up as well. Are the rings hard to fix? Nicko: I don't really have a problem with them, seems like you do though ;) Quote
Jason Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 (edited) rings are... so so, pull motor out strip off the head pull rods and pistons out... ect ect. carnt imagine being fun of a job if your in a rush to get it back on the road. I don't know if there are any other ways but I'm sure there is. Edited March 12, 2007 by Jason Quote
Teddy Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Reason i say the does it do it when its been sitting yada yada - Gives time for oil to seap past the valve guides, and sit on the back of the valve or inside the combustion chamber, dependng on where the motor stops. So, when you start it up, if its a ploom of smoke, then it goes away, thats usually the problem. If it keeps smoking while ure driving - its either rings, or very badd valve guids. Its cheaper to do valve guides.. kinda.. take the head off and valves out - replace the guids; (motor in job) Rings - well, yeah motor out start again roger type thing.. Quote
Teddy Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 lol..anyone can bag a 4AC or a 4KC, but at the end of the day, diagnosing the problem, fixing it is more of a solution then talking about an oxy. ;) :P ! Quote
Trev Posted March 12, 2007 Report Posted March 12, 2007 Teddy is on the money with the valve stem seals, I probably have a spare 4A-C head, Just throw in the HPR30 and see how it is for a quick fix. Quote
Nitephyre Posted March 12, 2007 Author Report Posted March 12, 2007 Yeah, I'll give the good oil a go first, if that clears it up sweet, I've got a new filter as well. If I have to to pull the head off, then I'll give it a go and maybe investigate a cam grind. Cheers for the help --- Of course, in my Dreamland would be quite nice in the van ;) Quote
