How many ks can you get out of a 4K before it dies.

Mine has nearly hit 290,000

a couple of welch plugs have started leaking, the front crank seal, rear main and fuel pump gasket leak a fair bit of oil, the timing chain rattles, and theres a fair bit of lifter noise.

And on long trips it uses a fair bit of oil. i.e. 1 hour of 80-100 kph = approx 2.5l of oil

I'm pretty sure its going to die soon, but maybe not, i hope to get another 30,000 out of it.

Just want to know how long the average 4K lasts?

Cheers Rob

You don't say!!!

I got my car from my brother. The 3K had done around 210 000k. My brother didn't care for the car and it died. I had a recon'd 4K installed and i've been driving her for 14,000k's. (WTF I just realised i've had her for 1 (one) year as of yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOLLA)

I've been putting top grade oil into her and changing her oil every 5 000k's.

I hope that the more i care for her the longer she will last.

Pffft. Life expectancy? They are immortal. :lock_folder:

Well Ive proven that wrong twice now....going for a third time at the moment. They might be good but a Briggs and Stratton is probably alot closter to immortal.

They don't like it if you remove the governors from them :lock_folder:

But anything you can take to the valves with a hammerand a file and survives gets my thumbs up.

i put 230 thousand hard kays on top of what an import 4k had from japan.

it started to lose a bit of power and burn oil. stripped it was found to be quite good, apart from bad ring groove wear.

mine has around 278 thousand, have only done about 6 thousand km's, it due for a service now. it dosent blow smoke or use oil, (leaks it insted) it might be down slightly on compression and is a bit rich i think. gose well though i recon it would easly make it to 350,000 might want rings and bearings by then but they last. i don't rev it over 5,000 as I'm on my dam L's and the passanger starts to yell as me, reconing I'm "over revving it" its only doing half its rev range i say..

on the topic of revving what can you "safely" rev these too?

and what has people revved theres to without "i recon it was doing, cause i don't have a tachometer"?

Had the factory tacho pegged on 8000rpm for a while and it held together.

Also had a shift light on constantly for a full motorkhana and that is set to come on at 7500rpm.
