i think I'm gonna find the twinky incredibly different as it is.... :jamie:

disk brakes... working hand brake... longer body, more overhang, more oversteer, more power, more boot space!

and working aircon and power steering :P

ok. done. where do i get it from for that price?

Depends what thickness you want. I'm going for a 0.5mm item to increase my compression (on both 4A-GE and 4A-GZE). I have seen (from various companies) 0.5mm, 0.6mm, 0.7mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2.0mm. I wouldn't go for more than 0.8mm, because I think that's where the compression starts to go down instead of up.

The 0.5mm TRD gasket is available from PASS Racing in the US. It costs US$75 on it's own, plus postage. I'd estimate about $100-110 in total. They also do this gasket as part of a complete gasket set for US$285.

Alternatively, Toysport have a 0.5mm metal head gasket, also for US$75. The advantage with buying from Toysport is, I want a fair few parts from them. Check out their page: http://www.toysport.com/catalog/parts%20by%20engine/4AGE.htm and let me know if there's anything else you'd want from them. The more parts we buy, the less shipping each of us has to pay, and we might even get a discount off the total.

If I had the money, I'd get:

  • valves (for 4A-GE & 4A-GZE)
  • valve springs (for 4A-GE & 4A-GZE)
  • head gasket (for 4A-GE & 4A-GZE)
  • pistons (for 4A-GE)

However, I don't have anywhere near US$1,396 to spend. :P Also depends on what the inside of my bigport looks like when I start getting it apart. If it needs pistons (I doubt it), then I'll buy high compression ones straight up. I presume it will need a head gasket, so I'd definitely buy one of them. The valves will wait until I'm getting all the head work done and I've bought cams. I should be picking up the 4A-GE this weekend, so I should find out pretty quick if I need pistons or not. As soon as I've found that out, I'll be able to get a quote on shipping on parts.

adam... you lie!

US$75 and AUS$55 is not exactly a straight comparison.....

$55 and about $86

.... then shipping on top of that.... i don't know if its worth it just yet... i guess i might as well fix up the car to a STANDARD spec for the time-being, do the gasket myself so i know, then when its time ofr the metal gasket, do that :P

plus... i still have the T2 sitting at home.......................... EFI boosted goodness anyone?

good size for instant boost? no lag?

Sorry about that. I could remember them being $75, but I forget it was US, not Australian. If you're putting a turbo on, get a metal head gasket - preferably a thicker one. The T2 will give pretty instant boost on a 4A-GE. Drop the compression to about 8.0-8.5:1, run about 10-12psi of boost and you'll be set. :P Just don't forget: turbo's suck.

yes... yes they do suck. thats the point....

instant boost is good :no2:

but yeah. i was thinking thicker metal gasket down the line...

(you replied quickly this time!)

i was thinking about 10psi max though. i don't want crazy power, or crazy boost... just a bit of "psshht" :P

actually... no, i don't even want that! lol. just the kick :jamie:

i think a pod filter is in the works too

damn EFI... opening up all these possibilities

As a general guide a T2 is good up to 10PSI, a T25 up to 15PSI and T28 up to 20PSI. A GT25 or GT28 is a ball bearing version of the T25 and T28 respectivly and will have reduced lag. (any one please feel free to correct me)

borrowed from the exa club forum

oh. the t2 is off a 1.5l exa though..... hmm... there wont be much up high..... thats ok though... instant acceleration :y: a flatter power curve

thats kinda cool :P

you forgot to mention stock injectors too.... no air filter, and no intercooler!

thats with about $2g worth of stuff I'm guessing. not including tuning time!

ding ding ding.... found my info :P

Nissan/Garrett T2

One of the first turbocars to appear in Australiais the Nissan Pulsar/EXA turbo.

Using a new generation ‘small frame’ Garrett T2 turbocharger, the E15ET engine is factory rated at up to 86kW (in Australian guise). These turbos are comfortable at well over standard boost (about 7 psi) and can capably be used for around 110kW in a street application. Push the envelope to about 120kW and its efficiency falls away dramatically. Note that early versions of this turbo (as photographed) are air-cooled, but later versions use a water-cooled core for improved durability.

The T2’s compressor inlet is 45mm diameter and the discharge nozzle is flared to 52mm at the slip-on hose connection. The compressor housing is also marked with a 0.48 A/R. Exhaust gas passes through a 50 x 39mm turbine passage and the mounting flange is 63 x 93mm. The turbine and dump pipe both connect with 4 bolt flanges.

Interestingly, the little T2 turbo uses the same turbine mounting flange as some larger T25 and T28 turbochargers. This means Skyline GT-R, S13/S14/S15 and Pulsar GTi-R turbos will bolt up to the same manifold.

T2 turbos are pretty easy to find and servicing parts are readily available. If you have the choice, go for the longer-lasting water-cooled version.

bah. you'd have fun....

boost is pretty cool :P

but i guess... at the end of the day... its still a FWD :jamie:

danno.... need a T2 for project bush basher?

u can put about 5psi fine through a NA engning no worries if ur worried just get a Rising rate FPR f@$k the intercooler and just have a bov

i reccon 500 buck and u could have it done

the engine will let go but u can have a farly fast car for maby a year if u don't flog it too often

turbo's will aways make more power over superchargers :P

T2 will even run out of puff fast but boost at low like 1800 - 2k ahahaha

i'll probably end up going t28rs and i got a whole set of 1jz injectors for 40 bucks so i'll have 2 spare

or

run 2 secondarys and 30psi boost wooohooooo (BANNNNNNGGGGGG)
