Raven Posted July 13, 2007 Author Report Posted July 13, 2007 (edited) -Update- So I never removed the gearbox from the KE25 as I sourced a K50 from Valandor before he sold his KE70 and just swapped the extension housings over. I had decided that I'm going to fix the head gasket on the current motor, get another carb for it and get it back up and running so i can drive it as the panel van has drive train vibration like you wouldn't believe at the moment and the exhaust is rooted which is costing me a shitload in fuel and not allowing me to save up to get the parts I want off of Liam for the KE36 (not to mention my tax bill). So today I went to see a mate of mine and got a head gasket, inlet/exhaust manifold gasket and rocker cover gasket for the low sum of $20. The I went to my wrecker mate and got myself another carb for $35. So far a total sum of $55, but there will be oil, oil filter and coolant on top of that, so I'm expecting around $80-$90 total. As this motor is pretty well hammered, this is a temp fix until I can get the other K50 I have rebuilt and get a KE55 K50 extension housing for that box, so I can put that in with my 5K when that motor is ready. Will update this again when the head gasket is done, which will probably get done tomorrow and/or Sunday. Raven Edited July 13, 2007 by Raven Quote
Raven Posted July 14, 2007 Author Report Posted July 14, 2007 Thought I'd put up a pic of how it stands at the moment since I finally got it started and moved it today after fiddling around swapping over linkages etc to suit the KE25 accelerator cable. Quote
Raven Posted July 15, 2007 Author Report Posted July 15, 2007 So I spent a few hours today removing the head off the car. While undoing the front left head bolt, it decided to snap off at the top of the thread. So I got my neighbour over to ask for his expertise. Vice grips would touch the locating dowel and the thing wouldn't budge, so in the end we came up with a nifty little idea and hammered a spare socket over the protruding head bolt and removed it that way. I had a look at the head gasket and there are no visible signs of a blown gasket at all, so I'm going to take the head to a cylinder head repairer and get them to test it for cracks. So as it stands, the motor is now headless and awaiting a new gasket/head to go back on. Quote
Raven Posted July 18, 2007 Author Report Posted July 18, 2007 Spent yesterday and today getting the car back to running order. It now drives nicely, I degreased the motor and now I'm going to start saving towards my twin weber/dellorto manifold for my 5K and get the parts I need to get the motor underway and built. Quote
