:lolcry: Hello every one I'm new to this, and i am also very happy to be apart of it.

Well yesterday while i was driving home from school i drove past a patrol car. In The backstreets of my suburb. He decided to turn round and follow me all the way to my drive way.

He then jumped out of his car and Told me that my car was to noisy, and that there had been noise complaints in the area which are all apparently my fault. (I hear mini pocket bike zooming around he back streets late at night and other hotted up cars), but he pinned all those complaints on me.

Any way he then tells me to rev up to 2 rpm and which sound like any normal ke 70 at those revs. Without using a db reader he tells me straight away that its too loud. The officer Then tells me i have 2 weeks to get it fixed or he will fine me $150 and one demerit point for Noise Infringement and another $650 fine for not abiding a lawful direction or something.

The thing that i don't understand is the fact that he didnt give me a defect notice or anything??

What are you thoughts on this matter guys/girls?

i think the max legal limit for car noise is 96db at 6000rpm

just get a baffle silencer to go on the end of your exhaust, I have one on my rx7, and it does 93db at 6000rpm so I'm lucky there

they look a bit shit, but its a hell of a lot better than a fine

if he didnt use a decibel or spl meter or what ever he can't do shit.they tried it on me down at surfers said mine was loud i asked do u have proof and he said my word is enough proof in court i got my license back and drove off normal i havent herd anything and that was about 3 months ago.and as I'm aware he can't just give you a fine for it i think you have to go get a inspection by the transport department then they do it i think correct me if I'm wrong people.cheers :lolcry:

i thought they have to check it with a DB meter thing.....and only DOT can't do that...so unless he has given you a Defect notice and told you to go see DOT...f@$k him!

:lolcry:

and if he carries on about it and tries to take it to court id make sure your car has a legal exhaust and go to court take it all the way tell as many people as you can.but hey thats your choice if it goes that far. :lolcry:

Well....obveously if he lives so close HE is the one making the complains which means HE knows which cars are making the noise. My guess is you've been driving like a twat past his house and hes sick of it (rightly so). So either start driving like normal people do, or get your exhaust changed so it doesnt annoy him because otherwise you could be in for much worse things. Consider the fact that he probably COULD have defected you for other things and I think you'll find hes being pretty reasonable. Hell if someone was driving past my house like an idiot and I was a cop, I wouldnt heistate to figure out which one it is and pull them over the first chance I get.

Just cop it sweet or you'll end up in more strife later.

cops just wont let us have fun anymore, so many Accessories for cars are illegal, EG. neons loud exhuast system etc. I think they should give us a break for once....

Comes down to what IROKIN said - drive like a dickhead and cops will come down on you for something.

I got away with low suspension, loud exhausts, twin carbies, no pollution gear etc for years cause I drove sensibly most of the time. When I was pulled over I made sure that I was nice and polite to them. never had any probs.

it may not be you at fault for all the noise, but it seems that you may be some part of it from what he can see,

so it is reasonable from his point of view, if you think about it... but not completely correct.

secondly how can you be annoyed for not getting a notice?! that means

he has warned you and not just handed over an infringement notice on the spot!

so if you sort it out then you don't get fined!! id be more than happy with that!

he has given you a chance, don't make him get all formal with it else he will

bring out the db meter and defect everything he can.

also car exhausts.... hmmm. you can get as much performance out a reasonably quiet one

as an oversize fart tin, its mainly the muffler side of things.

exhaust tech :

naturally aspirated small capacity stockish engines only need meduim pipe diameters at most,

a decent cat converter, and a decent flow muffler. no need for a 3 1/2

inch pipe, gutted inline cat converter and straight through muffler. not saying

you have all this but i assume you have some of it to have a loud exhaust.

also never gut the cat converter!

ps - small engine, huge exhaust = lose bottom end, gain a tiny bit at the top,

and as a bonus you will get uncle bens extra long grain rice sprinkled around

your car everytime you park.

to fix your problem i think you may need a quieter muffler. most exhaust shops

have a big range to suit and cheap 2nd hand ones most times. you can't really

pack the muffler successfully and have it work properly i don't think,

unless you cut it open and can weld etc which isnt really worth it.

I was told that technically...

A dB meter is meant to be used ONLY in an open area of atleast 100m square, of flat concrete, with the reader no less than 50cm from the exhaust outlet. It has to be set remotely, so that there is nothing for the sound to bounce off in that 100m radius (that include Mr Plod).

96dB is the max legal limit for a logbooked PRC rally car, and yep, thats at 6000rpm.

Revving up to 2k rpm is bullshit!!

The bloody police prey on people who don't know any better!! They have to be seen to be 'actively enforcing the peace', when its all just tallys and quotas...

Instead of crap like what they stopped you for, why not hunt down people who bash other people and mug them, burglars, and litle punk-asres stealing cars!! Priorities Mr Officer, Priorities!! FFS!!!

i would comply myself. i would look at what you got as a friendly warning. :y:

all the copper needs is to find 2 defects and he could put you over the pits at the DOT. then you have to pay fines for defects, points loss on your licence, and need to pay for your DOT inspection. DOT will go through your car with a fine tooth comb (harsher than a safety cert), and you have to fix any problems within a certain time period or it gets taken off the road. been there, done that.... it wasn't fun. :lolcry:
