hobart_ae92 Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 hi, i just signed up, had a look through prev topics and didn't see this so excuse me if i missed it. basically i've got a ae92 with supalows and 17s, it scrapes when i go over bumps kinda 'quicker' but if i got someone in back, it scrapes on smallish bumps even when goin slow... so i went round to see who could roll my guards and only found one place (dam hobart) said he would do it for 80 bucks, but he said he'd just bash em out with a rubber mallet...i could do that. anywho i'm just seeking some advice before i go ahead and bash it out a bit... hope you guys can get back to me asap before i ruin something on my car that i love so much. thanks, tibor ps. what i'm afraid of is i've heard of the area prone to rusting after the procedure, is that the case even if you clean n prime, paint it...? Rolla__Boy Posted July 26, 2006 Report Posted July 26, 2006 It will more than likely take paint off, which is why it would rust after. The best thing to do is to get them rolled before painting, however if you don't intend to paint the car, you can try rolling them and just hope not too much paint comes off. I rolled my guards with a maglight torch jammed between the wheel and the guard, which essentially is the same as the guard rolling machine. Mine rolled perfectly but took some paint off. Quote
hobart_ae92 Posted July 26, 2006 Author Report Posted July 26, 2006 the paint that comes off is the paint underneath the guard, not on the outside right. seems to me it would be pretty easy to prep n paint that part myself with some $20 can-o-paint myself since doesn't matter if it looks bad under there? anywho i'm gonna get the car resprayed soon (money willing) ... thanks for the replys guys, can never have too much help/advice though cheers tibor Quote
Nebuchernezzer Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 I find using a hammer eaasier then using a guard roller personally. Just be carefull so you don't crack the paint on the outside of the guard when you do it (same with guard roller), useing a heatgun on the paint (but not to much heat) will help i'm told. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 personaly if you want a lot of clearence, unfold the lip, it makes it heaps fatter.. down side it you will have to bog it and prime/paint it.. not a big deal though.. Quote
ke20man Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 a pair of multigrips on the lip under the guards will bring them up a bit or a sizzer jak between ur gurd and inne guard is good a gurard rolla cost about $80 just as easy to bash it with a hammer does the same Quote
Wood§tok Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 guard rollers work well if you heat the panel up before bending it, and the paint is in good conditon to begin with. hammers will create uneven edges that will bite into the tires and ruin them quick smart. cheers. Quote
Des Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 my boss went to get his rear gaurds rolled in his vu and they double booked so they couldnt do it ;) but for the time being the put some black lube shit under the gaurd and it has dripped down on his 19's and has stained them now he is trying to make them pay for the repairs to his nice new chromies!!! so i guess the lube shit is a no no. Taz_Rx Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 mate of mine has a guard roller now and is wanting to do some cars for some spare cash. if you were at the drift day at basky the other week, you may have seen his matt black aw11 with a big sticker up the side for guard rolling. if you got quoted $80 for someone to do it with a hammer, I reckon he would do it for about $50 with the roller. you'd just have to bring your car to launy one week ned for him to do it. if your interested lemme know and I double check with him. :) Quote

Oh yeah, at the front it's rubbing on the plastic bit inside the guard (kinda melted into it) so what do u do about that, just leave it or cut part of it off...? thanks for all your input guys, tibor Quote
