Sinate Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Hey all this is my first post here. My name is Joseph and i live in New Zealand I'm currently running a 1978 ke30 corolla. with the vinyl roof :P . I have got extractors and dual downdraft carbs at the moment. I have got a ke70 4k sitting at my dads place and will chuck it in wen i got the time. Bear with me cause iv got some questions. Also just purchasing a ground cam unknown of specs but the guy worked at kelford cams (nz) Would my 3k head on the 4k make much of a difference in compression? I heard that they down nothing unless the head was from a 3k-b engine? Has anyone here had experiences with ramflo air filters catching on fire? What has everyone got/recommend in the way of air filtration? should i go with a pod type CAI set up? After I'm done getting my flywheel lightened (not to much) what should my next step be? When I'm done i think I'm planning to spend around 1k-2k on my motor. Is it worth doing this to a 4k? what can i expect in the the end? How much does the 4age coversion (non turb) usually cost? Thanks all Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 wellcome to the rolla club. have a look around on the forums and you find all most all the info you need the 3k-b head is a big port head. (i think) but some one well tell me if I'm wrong :P Quote
bruce Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 I proabably wouldn't spend 1k-2k on a 4K engine. I would put it towards something else, like a 4age or something like that. But if your keen I reckon you could build a decent 4K Quote
Redwarf Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Welcome to rollaclub. May I suggest reading the rollaclub wiki (link at top of page), as it's chock full of k motor goodness. Research before posting is usually the go first, but I'll humour you :P and answer the best I can. Hey all this is my first post here.My name is Joseph and i live in New Zealand I hope your heater works really well. :P I'm currently running a 1978 ke30 corolla. with the vinyl roof :) . I have got extractors and dual downdraft carbs at the moment.I have got a ke70 4k sitting at my dads place and will chuck it in wen i got the time. Bear with me cause iv got some questions. Also just purchasing a ground cam unknown of specs but the guy worked at kelford cams (nz) You really need to know the specs for things like tappet settings, spring settings, etc. There should hopefully be a grind number on the end of the cam. If there is, ring/ email Kelford and get the specs. Would my 3k head on the 4k make much of a difference in compression? I heard that they down nothing unless the head was from a 3k-b engine? I assume that's do nothing. Yes they do something. No, they don't do a lot. A big port head and a shave will get you some good-ish neddies, but someone who knows what they're doing will get more out of a small port head. Has anyone here had experiences with ramflo air filters catching on fire? No, but they do disintergrate after a period of time. I won't use them. What has everyone got/recommend in the way of air filtration? should i go with a pod type CAI set up? I've usually had side dafts of some sort, and I use socks on the twin cam, and sandwich filters on the 3/4K. Never seen the need for a CAI set-up. (You live in New Zealand, the whole country is a CAI set-up.) After I'm done getting my flywheel lightened (not to much) Why? what should my next step be? When I'm done i think I'm planning to spend around 1k-2k on my motor. Is it worth doing this to a 4k? what can i expect in the the end? How much does the 4age coversion (non turb) usually cost? What do you want it to do? What are you going to use it for? Only you can decide whether it's worth it or not. Can't help wih the 4AG price, never done one. lappy Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 (edited) What has everyone got/recommend in the way of air filtration? I use a K&N air filter does the job and looks good Edited July 24, 2006 by lappy Quote
coln72 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 What has everyone got/recommend in the way of air filtration? Never had any probs with the factory air cleaners. Running aftermarket ones at the moment from REPCO to suit Stomberg(?) carbies (modified a pair of old Holden aircleaner housings to suit the Toyota carbs as my twins didnt come with the aircleaner housing) and they are crap. Taz_Rx Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Hey redwarf - have you seen carby socks get sucked into the velocity stacks!!! when I used to have them on my 13bbp with a 48 IDA. JUST FREE REVVING, it would get to about 5-6 grand and suck them right down in, then you shoulda seen the black smoke!! :P I would highly recommend K&N's. they might be the most expensive air cleaners around, but thats cause they're also the best!!! :P just look after them properly by using the proper cleaner and oil. :) Quote
Redwarf Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Hey redwarf - have you seen carby socks get sucked into the velocity stacks!!! Yep, I have. But my 2t-g sucks a lot less air through 4 holes than a PP through two. I've never had that issue with socks on a Toyota motor. Quote
Sinate Posted July 24, 2006 Author Report Posted July 24, 2006 thanks for your help Is this cam to aggresive? 292" camlift and 438 valve lift? Quote
Sinate Posted July 30, 2006 Author Report Posted July 30, 2006 Just everyday driving. I now no its far out from what i want Quote
Redwarf Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 You woul be wanting a nice little cam with about .400 lift at the valve. Most good cam makers should have a good road cam they can grind you. Quote
Dan Posted July 30, 2006 Report Posted July 30, 2006 Bearing in mind that there is **bugger all difference** between a "bigport" and a 4k head I learn something new everyday! So basically, if I bolt a 4k head onto a 3k its essentially the same as a 3k with a Bigport head? Quote
