Jono Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 (edited) i have a ke55 diff ready to go in my ke20. its a 4.3. What other ratios do KE55's have? Its a Borgy Edited July 11, 2006 by JC807 Quote
Dan Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 KE55's ran Borg Warner diffs, from my understanding the KE55 Manual's came out with a 4:1 centre and the KE55 automatics came out with a 4:3 centre. With the exception being that all KE38's (read: KE55 wagon/panelvan) were released with a 4:3 centre. There were 3:9 centres available as an option in the AE71 series, though apparently they require some modification to fit in the KE55 housing. The Jap diffs that were found in KE30's ran 4:1 in the manual and 4:3 in the auto, and wagons and panelvans (KE36) were released with a 4:5 ratio centre. There were some special ratio TRD diffs that were released over the years in the KExx models. Hope that helps, I'm pretty sure that it is correct. Dan. Quote
Jono Posted July 10, 2006 Author Report Posted July 10, 2006 cheers, guess that means i have an auto diff. its going with a t-50 but i guess i'm hoping 1st gear won't be too short. would love 60kmh out of 1st ideally. Quote
Redwarf Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 I have 4.77's behind a T-50, an I find it fine. No idea what first will do though. Quote
Dan Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Doubtful on that one. 'chrisnliz' reports maxing out at 52km/h with his 4:1 ratio diff/K50 combination in first gear; doubt that the T50 would be that much different in regards to gear ratios, and combined with the 4:3 you would probably be lucky to push 50?? Thats just me guessing though; I don't have a clue what the ratios are like in a T50 as compared to a K50. Dan. Quote
Xany Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 i'll give it a test tomorrow, and i'll report back here on what a t50 does with a 4.1 diff.... Quote
Xany Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 (edited) no probs mate.....i'll just have to remember to look down at the speedo before i change gears...i doubt i'll get to 60ks before i have to change....i can almost garantee it.. Edited July 10, 2006 by Xany Quote
Jono Posted July 10, 2006 Author Report Posted July 10, 2006 it would be nice to be able to pull out into traffic and hit the speed limit without changing gears. my old 318i would get nearly 55kmh if i took it all the way but the 323i gets 60kmh out of first quite easily. I think they were both 3.6:1 ratios with 5 speeds. Quote
Felix Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 if you don't mind playing around changing gears in housings.... some datsun's (120y's i think) had 3.9 borg warners with the small centers like the corollas used. Quote
Dan Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 So did AE71's.. what modifications need to be done to do it though? Quote
lappy Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 (edited) A Ke70 import had a 3.9 banjo diff and a KE70 wagon had a banjo in it didnt it? Edited July 11, 2006 by lappy Quote
Felix Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 AFAIK the datto 120y BW diffs (114.3 PCD) are narrower than the ke2x ones. probably wouldn't be to bad to swap into a ke1x. the gears can be changed between the BW diffs. think you need a tool to spread the housing to remove the centers though.
