BrightonB Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Hello, just a quick question is there like a good type of glue or anything like that is good to fix cracks in the dash and then just sand over it Quote
Dan Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Yeah, this happens to a shitload of Corolla's. I had the idea of sanding it back flat, and bogging over the cracks, painting it and then trimming it, if I had a cracked dash. Though, the '55 I was going to do it to had too much rust and has now been turned into a new Toyota or something in Japan - Scrap metal. Good luck and post pics!!! Dan. Quote
ToDa30/4 Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 u could get a auto trimmer in and have it plastic welded .did lots of touch ups on thegt4 when i got it ,have not done the KE30 as yet,was not expensive  Quote
JiP Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 (edited) I know it must sound like i work for this company since i'm always recommending them, but they did a great job. Apparently filling the gaps will only cause it to recrack when the putty/filler dries out. Visit their site, they tell you all about it. Dashboard Restorations Jon. oh what a nissan feeling! Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 Dashboard restorations hey, Well, lets just say the result on mine was pathetic, and after 6 months the paint has millions of cracks through it. Hardly a $420 job. :abuse: Quote
Maztrix Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 There is a place in SA called Dashboard Originals. They don't charge as much as the place abouve and do excelent work. I'm pretty sure they do interstate jobs aswell. Just send it in. Daniel Quote
JiP Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 (edited) I don't know where you went but my dash wasn't as expensive as yours?? plus they have a 5 year warranty. So if after 6mths yours was cracking, you should have taken it back. Edited July 16, 2006 by JiP_01 Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 (edited) i went to dashboard restorations in brisbane, slacks creek from memory. As for taking it back, they offer no warranty on recolour, its ovious to me now why. The extra price was for the recolour as well. This was not my only problem however. The paint coverage was poor, and in places there was actually sand underneath the new vynal. Imagine how good that looks on a new dash. When i went back to complain they simply gave me a jar of paint. YAY! Talk them up all you want, you were just lucky so far. . . . . . . Edited July 6, 2006 by oh what a nissan feeling! Quote
rthy Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 just use some electrical tape the same colour as your dash... Quote
JiP Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 Well mine isn't at Slacks Creek, there at Acacia Ridge. Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 All i did was bog it up, sand it back until it was almost smooth. To cover it i used black boot carpet. After 14 months it still looks fine. Quote
Dan Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 All i did was bog it up, sand it back until it was almost smooth. To cover it i used black boot carpet. After 14 months it still looks fine. Thats exactly what I was going to do, but wasn't sure whether to carpet it.. I'm sure that it will be fine for at least ten years like that.. *at least* Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Go the carpet for sure. :abuse: It hides all sorts of nasties lol  Defiently would be easier to do while the windscreens out though. Quote
