turbo_rolla Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 hey guys, currently trying to put my new shock absorbers into my KE70 corolla (front end). Only got replacement shocks, and have managed to take off everything else that i needed to to access the strut. Problem is removing the existing shock from the strut? How do ya do this? Tried unscrewing/wacking the hexagon (???) shape thing at the top of the strut, but no luck? Its really starting to f$#k me off, so any help would be appreciated! PS....have installed suspension in numerous cars before, but most involved replacement of WHOLE struts...... THanks guys! Quote
Redwarf Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 Put strut in vice, get large shifter / pipe wrench: Undo. Don't be gentle. Quote
Boost+k Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 yea pipe wrench is the tool to use.... failing that put nut in vise and spin the whole strut by holding onto the spindle???? Quote
anastasios Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 i used a chisel and broke the welds on the hexagon nut and then used a chisel and sledge in the gap to spin it off Quote
coln72 Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 Put nut in vice, grap a big soft face hammer and bet the shit out of the stub axel. Quote
turbo_rolla Posted July 4, 2006 Author Report Posted July 4, 2006 Thanks for all the replies guys! Wasnt sure whether it "popped out" or screwed out, but its obvious from the replies that it screws out! I got a bit f#$ked off with it all and ended up putting it all back together to do for another day :D (even that was a pain in the ass as i tried to shortcut the job by leaving the brake hoses in tact ). I'll try each suggestion from the bottom up on the weekend when i go in for round 2! My ae112 sportivo & ae92 were a piece of pi$$ compared to this ke70....didnt even have to disconnect the brakes on those two :P Thanks for the input fellas! :D Quote
counc Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 if at first you don't suceed..... USE A BIGGER HAMMER lol Quote
