leigh Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 just been out driving and now i have a knocking sound from the righthand rear! it only happens when i turn right around a sharp courner! i have pulled out the rear leaf just incase i had snapped one but it all seems ok! any ideas on what else it could be? cheers leigh Quote
lappy Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 the wheel bearing on the right hand side axle would be my guess Quote
Raven Posted July 1, 2006 Report Posted July 1, 2006 (edited) Just an idea - Have you checked that the wheel nuts are tight? A wheel bearing would make a grinding/scraping noise. A worn bush makes a knocking noise. Check that your shockers are tight and none of the bushes for the shocks are worn or for that matter, make sure the shocks arent worn as I had a falcon that would make a knocking noise from the front suspension due to worn shock absorbers and the vibrations would travel straight up to the body of the car. The wheel nuts were the first things that i checked! but i might check the bushes tomorrow and also the shocks!! the shocks are pretty new anyway, but ill give it the once over!! thanks for ya help guys  Ill let you know what i find!! cheers leigh Quote
coln72 Posted July 3, 2006 Report Posted July 3, 2006 Had a KE35 that would break the bottom off a shock after 6 months so maybe a busted shock?????? Quote
leigh Posted July 6, 2006 Author Report Posted July 6, 2006 Well i Removed the shock and thats fine! put it all back together and the noise is still there but only when i give it abit in a courner! Its not as bad as it first was  Quote
st.nick Posted July 6, 2006 Report Posted July 6, 2006 Has it got anything to do with the fuel tank, exhaust, and heat shroud for the exhaust?? Try those... My 36 has THE most annoying rattle in the whole history of automobiles, and I will have to strip the back end (diff, suspension, fuel tanks etc) to track it down. If I drive for more than 30mins at ANY speed, I need earplugs coz the rattle is nightmarish and causes headaches!! Quote
st.nick Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 ^^Indeed... But theyre also very, very simple. Not massive amounts of $$ will get you a full bush kit & shocks for one, that you can fit yourself, and presto!! It handles and rides well again... My BMW has strange things like rear subframe bushes, gearbox carrier bushes, floating crossmember bushes.... WTF?? My Van will get full nolothane and new shocks when the RA40 strut conversion happens... THEN she'll realllllyyy handle!! Quote
ke20rolla Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 At the back of the rear springs there are two lots of bushes one lot in the spring and the other lot in the body mount. push the back of the car sideways and check that the upper mount brackets aren't moving. They are spot welded on, the driver's side rear of my ke55 broke away and was a bit noisy so I got it welded back up. Quote
leigh Posted July 11, 2006 Author Report Posted July 11, 2006 thanks for all your help guys! still not sure what it was! but its stopped now! since i pulled it all apart to find it! cheers leigh Quote
