ca18rolla Posted June 28, 2006 Report Posted June 28, 2006 Guys as some of you may know my little beast is going to struggle for traction. So When i do the Hilux diff conversion I want to upgrade the suspension etc. To help make it get of the line as quick as possible. I m thinking maybe putting a two link in and maybe having the spring pack reset and some decent shocks. So i wanna know what others have done or what would be a good way to help with traction. Also i have searched but anyone done coilopver front?? Quote
Dan Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Yes, I do know a good way for traction.. I was speaking to a bloke who runs a 308 powered KE55 drag car.. obviously hes gunna have some major problems with traction, its quite a powerful motor. He got 1990-1991 model FWD Pintara.. umm.. you know the bar thingos that bolt to the axle and the chassis.. control arms? Or somethign, they're only found on FWD cars. Well, hes got one of them and they've been attached to the leaf packs (where the u bolts mount) and then attached to the floor pan/chassis of the car... I understand that it works very similar to a Caltrac style bar, I know that I've explained this very badly, but it was demonstrated to me and I can't put it to words .. To cut a long story short, this bloke has cut 1.5 seconds off his quarter mile time JUST in that mod alone. The car currently runs high 10's. Dan. Quote
cuzzo Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 I'm doing a coil over for my ke30 4agte. just organising the parts atm. I'm doing the hilux/pug/corona setup(see toymods) and putting coilovers on. Much like josh's ke30 1ggte. I have no idea on how that will effect traction. Maybe you need wider tyres or mini-tubbed? towe001 Posted July 7, 2006 Report Posted July 7, 2006 Have a read http://www.stockcarracing.com/techarticles/59459/index.html http://www.circletrack.com/techarticles/13...trol/index.html Do a google on "traction control", "anti-squat", "third-link torque absorber" Caltrac bars are good but from what i've read so far not so much from a handling point of view. On the scale of cheapness Vs. Easeness would have to be good ol' slapper bars work a treat. Next on the list would be adding a half of a leaf to the rear side of the diff. Its pretty well much a case of stopping the axle either tramping (axle wind-up) or pulling the back of the car down (or squatting as its called) Quote
ca18rolla Posted July 12, 2006 Author Report Posted July 12, 2006 I think i know what you mean, Like anti lift bars that front wheel drives run. Looking at the two link extra spring and reset pack. Will run slicks at the drags but wanna limit wheel spin for street duties. Caltrak are a bitch of a thing. You add preload to keep em straight and stop wheelspin. Break traction and regain and they can spit you hardcore sidewayz. Seen my mate put a Customers 700hp Camro into a parked car. (Poorly adjusted Caltrak) And he can really pedal, He drag car is just shy of 1000hp (8.6 second quaters) Quote
