7shades Posted July 31, 2006 Report Posted July 31, 2006 Yeah 4.5k sounds about right, I didn't have a tacho.... mind you it was a wagon. Not sure if they had different diff ratios.... prolly not. The engine was pretty toasted... Lot of gudgeon noise, rattling timing chain, wee bit of compression blow-by... still made it round the rest of the country though :) blessed be toyota. It was most likely the sustained high-rpm that was giving it the most grief.
JiP Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 Would you save on fuel if you had your suspension done?? Like new shocks, springs & lowered??
Corolla_Kid Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Not noticebly i'd imagine. tyre pressures can have a bit of a bearing though from what i've heard.
Des Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 watching myth busters the other night and the said that if your driving a ute you can get 15km more out of a tank if you don't have a cover over the tray. :lock_folder:
irokin Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Dropped 0.5L/100km (to 7.8L/100km) just by leaning my idle mixture in this last tank. Could lean it a bit more yet. This tanks modification... ignition timing from TDC to 15 BTDC (still no vac advance).
love ke70 Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 Would you save on fuel if you had your suspension done?? Like new shocks, springs & lowered?? difference would be minimal and the savings, if any, would not be anywhere near the cost of suspension over a 10 yr period me thinks..

Redwarf Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 (edited) watching myth busters the other night and the said that if your driving a ute you can get 15km more out of a tank if you don't have a cover over the tray. :lock_folder: It was actually tailgate down vs tailgate up. FWIW, if I reset the gizmos before a show on the ute, I get about 40 to 43l/100kms. No wonder the boss whinges about the fuel bill! Edited August 1, 2006 by Redwarf
7shades Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 aaah right... reminds me of the old days when I thought holden utes were cool... we just took the tailgate off for the "I'm going racing" look
JiP Posted August 1, 2006 Author Report Posted August 1, 2006 (edited) **BACK ON TOPIC** I fueled up yesterday and this time round i got 514kms out of 40ltrs. Thats 7.78ltrs per 100kms. I think that the tabs helped. Doubt the lowering did much. It came down 1.1ltrs per 100kms from the first time. Edited August 1, 2006 by JiP_01
love ke70 Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 how much do these tabs cost? i still don't believe they work :lock_folder:
JiP Posted August 2, 2006 Author Report Posted August 2, 2006 I think they are about 6 bucks for 2. But i get discount at AutObarn so it could be more/less.
irokin Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 uh huh uh huh! 7.5L/100km. Did 490km with 9 litres left in the tank :P Apparently my cars some kind of freak :P
