If you really want safety you wont cut them at all.

That aside the thing that is most dangerous about chopped springs is the fact that nobody uses shortened shocks. That allows the spring to simply fall out if the suspension is fully unloaded.

This is the catch 22 of chopping springs because by chopping you cause the car to bottom out the suspension frequently, that causes a bounce, that causes the suspension to unload and your spring may fall straight out.

Mate ran chopped springs in his gem for ages, never had a prob, and if you ever seen the rear setup on a gemini youll know how easy it looks for the spring to fall out...standard ones nearly fall out when you jack the car up..

BTW, man your car looks tuff, i love them TRX rims!!!

ok so if i did cut my springs and then got the shocks shortened then this would be semi safe ???is this right????

hay rolla boy you cut your springs in half ,how much did that lower the car,and do the springs still seat propely????

The springs seat fine....the top of the strut spins to suit wherever your spring ends.

And they fall out when you jack the car up, so you have to fiddle with them when u lower the car again.

This is a before and after shot of one of my cars, to show how much it lowered it.

Cut springs are never safe. I'm completely disgusted and appauled by the number of people who think its all rosy to modify their cars like this. Its illegal for a very very good reason. What happens when everything doesnt go right? I remember seeing a story about a young man in sydney who had cut springs in his car (It was a laser or similar 80s kind of fwd car). He was acting a bit silly on a freeway when he clipped another car. The car he clipped spun and crashed killing the driver (a young female). He kept on driving. The police tracked him down some days later with the help of witnesses and impounded his car. The forensics team went over the car finding evidence showing that he had clipped the other car and that he had cut springs. With this and the witness information they charged him with Manslaughter and he went to jail. He was under 20. There was another case down the Gold Coast I'm told, where a high performance car with 4 people in it rolled on a corner killing 3 of them and paralyzing the 4th. The car had cut springs, they were all under 25.

don't think this stuff doesnt happen. It does happen, and people do die. So whats the price on life these days? A few hundred dollars it would appear...
