Nandroid Posted December 16, 2018 Report Posted December 16, 2018 (edited) Hi. I'm pretty bew to this but I've had a 2001 sportivo for about 9 years and had a couple of turbo problems about 4 years ago. I've finally got the time to actually have a look at the car and it seems I've got a large crack in the exhaust manifold. I believe this is the cause of my "turbo" problem, from everything i know about how a turbo works i think it's a pressure problem and the crack in the exhaustmanifold is the only real problem i can diagnose. Does anyone know where i could get a new manifold for cheap or is it something I'm going to need fabricated? Edited December 16, 2018 by Nandroid Quote
ke70dave Posted December 16, 2018 Report Posted December 16, 2018 Is it a steel or cast manifold? If its steel someone could weld it up. But even if its cast a skilled welder could weld it up for you. But make sure they know how to weld cast. Pre heat and post heat etc. 1 Quote
Nandroid Posted December 16, 2018 Author Report Posted December 16, 2018 It's cast iron. I'll ask the panel beater at work about welding it, though I've seen some of his welds and maybe I'll try my hand at it. Thanks for the reply Quote
ke70dave Posted December 17, 2018 Report Posted December 17, 2018 you can successfully weld cast but you have to do it correctly. I cant remember the details but there are special welding rods for it and there is a pre and/or post heating technique to relieve the stresses in the material. If you don't do it properly it will crack again almost immediately:) Quote
