ausca62 Posted August 1, 2017 Report Posted August 1, 2017 Firstly, anybody know of someone that rebuilds old school Koni red / yellow strut inserts. I had mine rebuilt about 5 years ago but never installed. I have recently fitted them but one is not right. They are adjustable but adjusting does nothing. Toperformance said they are too old and they don't have parts for them any more. Secondly. what are other people using if they need replacing? Quote
KEI069 Posted August 1, 2017 Report Posted August 1, 2017 You could try the guys at Shockworks in Monbulk, not sure if they can rebuild your koni's but worth a phone call, they are super knowledgable. I think their phone number is on their Facebook page. Quote
ausca62 Posted August 2, 2017 Author Report Posted August 2, 2017 Thanks KE1069. Will give them a shout.. Cheers. Paul. Quote
ausca62 Posted August 2, 2017 Author Report Posted August 2, 2017 Hi. Do you overhaul old school Koni adjustable inserts? They are in a Toyota Corolla KE20. Hey Jim, Sorry mate but can't get service parts for these dampers:-( Cheers Brett Quote
ausca62 Posted August 2, 2017 Author Report Posted August 2, 2017 Seems I have 2 choices. .Monroe GT Gas Or SACHS Shock Absorber 290 675 Both about the same price. Anyone have a preference or know of a problem with one? Quote
parrot Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 Do you still have the KE20 strut bodies? Haven't gone bigger? Quote
ausca62 Posted August 2, 2017 Author Report Posted August 2, 2017 Yeah Pete, I have just done the T3 coilovers because the inserts had been rebuilt. Now there is a problem with them and I don't want to waste more time and money on them. If I had known before doing the T3 kit, I would have gone down a different path. Quote
parrot Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 I think you will really struggle to find anything other than a standard insert for these unfortunately. Question has been asked a few times. This was one of the more recent https://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/72643-shock-absorber-inserts-for-front-struts/#comment-704206 Quote

ausca62 Posted August 2, 2017 Author Report Posted August 2, 2017 Thanks champ . I think I am going to go Sachs. I want to get the front end back together so I can get the motor back in. The last time the thing was running was the day you were over. Cheers. Quote
parrot Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 I'd laugh but I'm not much further either. You would reckon that if a Golf insert fits, surely there would be an adjustable option available somewhere. I'd be asking Golf specialists in Germany or UK. When I put the short body MR2 inserts in the front of my AE86 I used the technotoytuning spacers that double as the top nut. This places the insert low down in the strut body to reduce the possibility of bottoming out the piston. I'd reckon some one of your skill and ingenuity could make something up like that, as long as you can find the right insert. Quote
parrot Posted August 2, 2017 Report Posted August 2, 2017 And at least from he two old threads you have evidence that the Golf inserts will actually fit Quote
AE25 Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 Another option I have read about is AW11 rear inserts which aparently are the smaller diameter (as compared to the larger diameter ae86/ae92 size). used as a short stoke shock youll need to make a spacer if putting into std housing. Or shorten the housing. Quote
parrot Posted August 17, 2017 Report Posted August 17, 2017 The AW11 inserts are discussed in one of the threads referenced above, but apparently only a particular early model AW11 insert fits Quote
AE25 Posted August 18, 2017 Report Posted August 18, 2017 (edited) Sorry i hadent clicked all the links. I'm sure the autostore or shock shop you're buying from will be able to confirm the correct sizing. if not, walk away. Edited August 18, 2017 by AE25 Quote
