demuire Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 (edited) 47th outright (would have been 35th if not for driver having major brain fart and mowing down a chicane at 20km/h on a non-competitive stage), 1st in class, 1st in category. Also won the general team event too. Which was rather unexpected since one of our team members took down a bus shelter and then proceeded to get beached, and another team member lost a cylinder on Day 5, and also spun into a ditch on Mt Arrowsmith. Most delighted with the results :P Unfortunately we weren't the quickest Mini's, 2 of the Mini Australia (factory team) Mini's whooped us on almost every stage. I guess having professional drivers and navigators in a factory backed team makes work for us amature privateers a bit hard eh? Edited May 2, 2006 by demuire Quote
coln72 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Congrats on the result. Knowing how difficult those roads are, just finishing is a bonus. The number of cars I saw off the road (or didnt see, just saw the skidmarks and a hole in the trees) after the Cethana stage in 2003 was amazing. Quote
demuire Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 Cethana wasn't too bad this year I don't think, but Strahan had cars growing from trees and rocks everywhere. Steve Glenney in his privateer STi was kicking arse (even the factory Subaru Team with Dean Herridge at the wheel, and the factory Evo IX with Warrick Rooklyn at the wheel) until the last day when he ran out of tyres at lunchtime... st.nick Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 Would have loved to see Glenney win this one... He nearly did it a few years back in that stock-standard black R33GTR. In-car of him airborne on The Sideling is pretty memorable!! Quote
coln72 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 (edited) a photo of Demuire (I hope) in action from day 1 or 2 I think. Edited May 3, 2006 by coln72 Quote
demuire Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 It is MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :P Here's the photos I took And here is us being happy: ;) Quote
Corolla Test Pilot Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 (edited) its all the same, when people learn to stand somewhere safe will be the day spectators stop getting plowed into...simple http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:CLR_Flip.jpg except when the cars can fly... st.nick Posted May 3, 2006 Author Report Posted May 3, 2006 Nice pics Fook!! The red E-type is a couple of mates of mine. The LHD Datsun 240RS is apparently an ex-works WRC grp B car!! The RHD is a clone. And the CAMS sticker.... Right where CAMS actually is; In the fu.kin TOILET!! Great pics mate... Glad it all went well for you guys :P Quote
tom210 Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 yeah silly seat was... yep u guessed it.. SILLY!!! na was actually pretty cool, i started my day (Saturday) in perth got in the elfin, did cethana, blah blah.. loads of fun etc, etc... Sunday!! righto early start in burnie, found my place in the even sillier silly seat (backseat) controling radios for the tour leader, kept me busy, but the main thing is the experience... hurtling around the west coast in a brand spanker mitsubishi 380gt at pace.. the memory is burnt in my mind forever.... sadly the elfin didnt make it through tarraleah (computer troubles) anyway went through the finish line, had dinner... at the "cheap" dinner on the sunday night... MONDAY!!! scored me a ticket to the trophy presentation dinner ($145), was so awesome, ticket said black tie with dinner jacket.... i missed the dinner jacket bit... so they wouldnt let me in until i had one so they took me around to the laundry, and got me a jacket which i promptly took off once i gained entry :P had a ball of a night, met some amazing people, one esepcially :D this is my third involvement targa, first year - i washed cars and stood at the casino holding a flag... 2nd year - i was navigating again in the elfin 3rd year - navigating, as above future - who knows, anyone that needs some service crew i'd be happy to help, so yeah that my targa story... sorry to hear about your pano nick... friggen bambi's ;) Quote
demuire Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 st.nick: wrong way around, the RHD (with the big spotties) is the real deal, the LHD is a clone. Quote
st.nick Posted May 4, 2006 Author Report Posted May 4, 2006 Either way, a credit to the builder of the clone... even fooled me!! Tho I'm not sure if either had the reputed 265BHP of the works cars?? Quote
demuire Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Not sure about the replica, but yes the genuine one is a works car, with a works engine, putting out 300hp (so the driver tells me - and it sounds it too!) Quote
st.nick Posted May 7, 2006 Author Report Posted May 7, 2006 There should be more of it!! Ex-works rallycars FTW!!! :) Quote
