hey guys been an avid reader of the forums for quite some time but have yet to need to make a post of my own with the bountiful info available here.

I'm currently restoring a 1978 4 door ke30 stripping back to steel and repairing and repaiting. iv run into a bit of a speed bump to say the least. i ould like to get in strip rust treat surface rust that is within the cowl ( where the wiper actuators live) is there an easy way to get in and strip/repaint that I'm just not seeing.

thanks in advance.

Unfortunatly to repair the rust properly is a major job, if your wanting to chase it 100%, that means removal of the windscreen, front guards, inside dash and associated bits, and drilling out all the spot welds of the top panel of the plenum, big job, although has been done before,

cheers!

Hi DousaSepen, long time ago, but just wondering how this job went? Did you have any unforseen difficulties getting it out, or putting it back in?

I am in the same situation, all along the spot welds under where the windsheild seals looks factory mint so going to be ashame drilling them out!

Any advice would be appreciated

Hover your mouse over his name and he was last here in 2016, so you're probably on your own.

Why do you want it off? Rust removal? Painting it? Can you get away with leaving it on at all?

Have you got the spot-weld-removing drill bits? I prefer the ones with the spike built into a flat bit, rather than the hole-saw type.

Copy that I can imagine he is long gone!!

I want to paint it, giving the car a full restoration. I see the previous owner painted in there somehow but I can see the paint is flaking, so would like to do it properly.

Have not got some spot weld drill bits yet so will definitly check out the ones you mentioned.

Saw these plug weld clamps that look quite handy!
