MrMasternes Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 Hi, I just joined this forum and this is my first post. I'm 20 and from the very top of Norway, my daily is a 2004 Audi A6 1.8T Quattro. Recently I bought a 79' Ke30 online, and I'm going to pick it up next week! The car is already insured and registered in my name. Unfortunately the car seems to have lived a rough life on the salty roads of Norway and therefore there's some rust on it. The previous owner have rustwelded parts of the channels. What's left (that I know of) is a wheel well and a hole in the trunk. The car have have rolled around 330000km (205000 miles) I'm so excited to pick it up! I'll keep you guys updated. Quote
Clapped out Posted August 15, 2016 Report Posted August 15, 2016 Can't wait to see more pictures, I'm a big fan of the 30 2 doors! Quote
MrMasternes Posted August 21, 2016 Author Report Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Ok so I finally had time to pick it up! Had to fly down, took me about a day aswell since the plane I was going on had a bird strike so it was canceled. I drove from the middle of Norway to the very top, went trough sweden and finland to get home as fast as possible (They don't have huge mountains everywhere so they can actually build highways). Took me about 18 hours of driving, went 1310km. Engine felt strong and tight. Had no problems with it, it started easily and held up with traffic. Some notes on the car: The car is spraypainted black with a spraycan it seems, some marks where the paint have dripped down. They didn't even mask it properly, oversprayed some of the chrome and even some of the badges! Dashboard has a crack in it and some plastic trim inside is missing. A heatwrapped plastic cap is where oilcap is supposed to be! Some rust on the panels. Aftermarket tail lights mounted on rear windshield. The original "Euro" side mirrors have been replaced by fender mirrors, the last owner added the small and shitty side mirrors that are on. I think I'll keep the fender ones :) Other than all this the car is stock :P Edited August 21, 2016 by MrMasternes Quote
MrMasternes Posted August 21, 2016 Author Report Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) HAHAHA I just saw the best thing ever! The last owner found a new trick to pass emissions test! Edited August 21, 2016 by MrMasternes Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 21, 2016 Report Posted August 21, 2016 haha! I hope the heater works!! My wife & daughter were just up there, the girl went to Svalbard and the wife stayed on the ferry visiting all the towns around to the Russian border. Even in summer it looked cold! It must have a good motor, but it looks like the body will need a stripdown and rust removal before you spraypaint it. There is always more rust than you think.. Quote
5KKid Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 Welcome, you've come to the right place they know everything about old rolla's on the rollaclub, I to love the KE30 coupes, that silencer on the muffler is a winner haha, that's a good thing drive home, I done pretty much the same thing when I picked my KE20 up from Victoria in Australia and drove it 900ks home, it gives you a chance to get to know them, I noticed in the first photo you joined the circle work club judging by the marks on the road, hehehe Quote
MrMasternes Posted August 23, 2016 Author Report Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) The motor is a lot more open now that I've angle grinded that muffler cap away. The whole pipe was filled with shavings of metal drilling, and the muffler is gutted! Found a long chrome tip and put it at the end of the pipe so the exhaust actually leaves the car instead of going up the rust holes in the trunk. Heater works like a charm! Heats up the car really fast! The paint that is on it horrendous, I can't wait to do something about it! The original color is brown and it has green doors. I'm thinking of keeping the car black. If you know any other original colors or other that suits the car, please let me know! I have no experience with spray-painting or welding but how hard can it be :) I have both access to garages, welding and spray-painting equipment! I've been cleaning the car, installed a radio and I've made 2 speaker boxes for 6x9 speakers to put on the rear windshield. Edited September 12, 2016 by MrMasternes Quote
MrMasternes Posted September 12, 2016 Author Report Posted September 12, 2016 (edited) Ok so I haven't posted in about 3 weeks, I haven't gotten around doing much with the car yet. I've been busy starting studying again. I'm working on fixing up the drivers seat. The frame to the back was busted and one of the horizontal bars holding the back together had broken off, so I took out the seat and took off the cover for the seat. Welded the frame up and I'm going to fix the cracked leather on the side. While seats are out I've cleaned the carpet. The carpet was pretty nasty but no mold. Black oil looking spots everywhere. I've installed a tacto underneat the heater, done a oil change, new air and oil filters and new spark plugs. Also I've removed the old crappy pink window tint on the rear side windows! My rolla is pretty happy now! I'm going to change out the gearbox oil soon and install speakers in the front, 4" holes are allready cut out and wires are run so it'll be a easy job! MrMasternes Posted October 10, 2016 Author Report Posted October 10, 2016 I just gotta show you this guys. I've changed the engine coolant and threw in a new thermostat because the old one was busted. It was constantly wide open, which will be a problem during winter. I also thought it would be a good idea to change the transmission fluid because It probably haven't been changed in 10 years. And that was my best choice on this car yet. What came out was horrifying. Light milky like fluid. You can barely call it oil by how thin it was. I still have nightmares about that sight and smell. I also installed a set of 4" speakers and covered the 6x4 boxes I made for the rear shelf. Anyways I've ordered a complete gasket kit for the engine and it looks like I need one for the transmission also now. I also bought new rear license plate lights because the old ones were rusted holes in. Quote
