budgie Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 Hello everyone new here, I have a corolla 95, 4afe engine 16V the main question I have is in relation to individual throttle bodies, the engine apparently is the older head type related closely to the 7AFE with the injectors ported in the manifold. what I am looking to do is use 4AGE ITB's as they're all that is available on ebay and don't really want to fork out thousands to get the 4AFE or 7AFE type's either, I do not wish to perform a head swap as I am trying to keep cost to the QTB rather than having to fork out for a new head as well. I don't mind if they don't match up perfectly as I may be able to use the flange of the original. And I don't mind how much screwing around it will take as this car is a work in progress anyway. I've seen somewhere that you can but the port differences will restrict airflow? this may be correct but seems only to be a minimal 10%. Can anyone help me out? I also have a dinosaur to tune it with the Apexi SAFC first ED Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 I don't think there are and 4af or 7af type itbs out there. Whatever you choose you need to make a manifold, the way I did it, I had a motor with a wider port spacing so I had a plate made that aligned the ports correctly, then I got an inlet flange then I cot some thick walled pipe and made a transition between round and oval to match the engine ports. Then I had it welded up. The tabs that act as linkages were all extended to reach. Sam q did the machining and welded the tabs for me. Quote
ke70dave Posted August 10, 2016 Report Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) The thing with itbs on a 4afe ia that those engines are really torquy down low and this is most likely due to the head and more specifically intake manifold design. Long runners give good torque. If you remove the intake manifold in favour of itbs and keep everything else stock, i reckon it will sound heaps better and go heaps slower except for maybe very high rpm.
