I've just received the insurance renewal for my ke35 and thought I'd share some info. I've heard of people paying some pretty high premiums.

The car is stock and in excellent condition. With SGIO (nrma) it's $84 per year for comprehensive with an agreed value of $3500. They wouldn't go any higher on the value. The policy is a veteran, vintage and classic vehicle policy. The only restriction is that I can drive the car 10days a month. From memory, I think I get salvage rights.

Hopefully this is helpful.

That's pretty good. Shannon's quoted me about $680 for my modified AE86, and that was for a 45 day club permit. Considering I'm over 50 and rating 1, Garaged etc, couldn't believe it.

my crown is insured for 15k thru shannons. has ALL my mods listed which is rather extensive. only $530 a year with automatic salvage rights. also as a daily driver. Pretty good i reckon.

Thats great for a shannons policy. With them I feel you usually contribute to the advertising budget more than fixing cars, you might want to check the value you will get in a worst case scenario as that sounds like an inexplicably low premium.

My problem is that the AE86 is categorised as a "risk" vehicle for all the reasons you can imagine.

The KE15 was only going to be about $130 odd from memory

My 11 is about $250 for $9k replacement value but I do have 2 cars and 2 bikes insured with them.

I'm looking for comprehensive insurance on the ae86. The general insurers like racq that insures my other two cars arent interested.

Theres shannons, Just car insurance, but who else can I talk to that does insure modified stuff? I might have to use a broker.

Years ago I was with a small crowd called torque insurance who were very personalised. They have unfortunately been swallowed up and dealing with some random guy there, it was impossible to get them to understand I had an ae86 and not an ae82 because of the 4age.

Hey all.

I had one of my ke30s insured with Shannons and it got rear ended. It was in ok condition and was for an agreed value of $3700.

When the repairer said its not worth repairing (not written off as Nsw write off register only goes back 20 years or so says the Shannons guy) I got the car back and got $$3500 in my pocket. The $200 I didnt get back paid out my policy.

Shannons then told me that when its repaired to a decent standard they will comprehensively insure the car again!!!!

WINNING.

They said they would insure my modified ke30 for an agreed value of near 40K for $600 a year fully comp. Its got laid-up insurance on it now encase it falls off a trailer, engine get stolen from my garage, etc.

Ive got nothing but good things to say bout Shannons. Plus if you have 5 or more policies with them you get fleet discount :-D

That sounds like a good outcome.

Last year Shannons auctioned a ke35 for $6100. I told my insurance co about this and they were happy to raise my agreed value  from $3500 to $6000 based on this, for an extra $25 per year.

It seems that's auctions might be the basis for how they work out the value of old cars.

I insured the Princess' KE55 hardtop with shannons for $6500 and she gets the car back in the event of a write off. She is on the policy as a first year driver and the premium is $48 dollars a month. They didnt bat an eye about the insured value. Hopefully we wont have to test out how good they really are...

Ive got the ae86 and the ra65 insured with shannons with all mods listed.  Good premiums too.  The clincher was getting free salvage on a car over 35 years, and that now includes the sprinter and the ra65 as I twisted their arms a bit for that point and they gave it to me.
