chrisandliz[RL] Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 I got my corolla for my 21st off my husband 4 years ago. we recently re-conditioned a 4kc engine and are putting webbers onto it, it has a 3k distributor because we have removed all of the vaccumm advanced stuff, we also have straight through extractors, now my car sounds like a VW. and we have never been able to set the timing right it has to be advanced. please help :P Quote
Trev Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 (edited) Also who did the reco, my old bluebird had a stretched timing chain so the valves were opening and closing at a different time that the crank was turning, i ended up telling everyone that i had a boxer engine in it and they believed me. EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention, Maybe the timing is out a tooth. Edited April 23, 2006 by Trev Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted April 23, 2006 Author Report Posted April 23, 2006 took all the vaccumm stuff of because the webber didn't support it. i do know that the webber can be modified by drilling into one of the vaccumm chambers but none of the carby people in perth will touch it with a 30' pole. lol :P not enought money in it they say "jerks" Quote
Trev Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 If the webber has a vacuum outlet run an xmas tree off it. Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted April 23, 2006 Author Report Posted April 23, 2006 whats a xmas tree?? sorry i'm not good with all the car lingo. but the carby is a 40 mm dcoe side draft webber on a redline intake manifold so my hubby says :P Quote
Trev Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 (edited) Its a multi-tap for an airline. EDIT: You could probably even use a T-Piece T-PIECE Edited April 23, 2006 by Trev Quote
Felix Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 you must have a vacuum line off of the manifold to the brake booster? try teeing off that. not quite the same as ported vacuum (off the carb), but sometimes they go better with manifold vacuum. either way, you will get better fuel economy and part throttle response with a functional vacuum advance. Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted April 24, 2006 Author Report Posted April 24, 2006 that's a good idea, but i've tryed that and the Manifold vacuum is so great that the advance maxes out on idle and it wants to ping like a moefoe. I was thinking about electronic points and locking off the vacuum all together in a effort to over come this. :P Quote
Felix Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 what is the base timing set to? (without the vac advance hooked up) Quote
chrisandliz[RL] Posted April 27, 2006 Author Report Posted April 27, 2006 8 dbtc, do you think it needs to be more? :lmao: Quote
Felix Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) i'd try winding up the base timing. bump it up to say 12 degs and try it out. if it improves try an extra 2 degs at a time until you get no further benefit. maybe you could look into getting the dizzy recurved to suit your mods. chrisandliz[RL] Posted April 29, 2006 Author Report Posted April 29, 2006 i was going to wait till i get the cam ground, i was looking at the points and even with the cap removed there was sparks jumping the points, is that normal? :P what is making that happen? Quote
