madrolla68 Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 What I'm after is enough bits to upgrade the front brakes on my 10 to KE20 (that is the go right?) So if anyone knows where i can get all the bits in perth preferably that would be great. Cheers Matt Quote
Dan Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 (edited) I'm looking at wrecking my KE55 sedan shortly. Just keep it in mind... No doubt Felix will be writing something good atm :P. Edited April 23, 2006 by Dan Quote
Felix Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 unless you are using 12" rims, i would be looking at something bigger than the ke20 ones. my ke16 has ke20 discs, and they are pathetic (better than drums i guess) compared to the ke30 discs on my ke15. the ke20 ones fade quite easily, but the ke30 ones have only faded on steep mountain descents. ke55/70 discs would probably be a little more fade resistant than the ke30 ones being a bit thicker. they wouldn't really pull up any quicker being the same diameter. i guess you need at least a set of ke20 hubs, and maybe something like Dans brake setup. Dan Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I'm pretty deadset on wrecking this car. If you are interested in the brakes, throw a PM my way... Dan. Quote

Felix Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 (edited) Yeah but i want to keep my original stud pattern and PCD that is why you use the ke20 hubs. the later discs (ke3x/55/70)bolt to them. you just need to redo the bolt holes on the struts where the backing plates bolt up. the later backing plates have larger bolt holes. not hard to redrill and tap them. Felix Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 yep the only ke20 bit needed is the hubs. the ke20 wheel bearings are the same as ke10 disc and drum models. only difference was the disc models had a different seal to the drums. make sure you get the brake hoses to suit whatever later brakes you use. you won't need the long spring wrapped hose the drum ke10s had. Ok cheers,i have already got KE15 disks on there so i guess its justa matter of drilling and tapping for the new hubs to fit. When you mention brake hoses you mean the ones that come with the calipers???.and am i to use theKE20 calipers as well or is there another better one to get like the KE55 disks and calipers from DAn. Also what M/cyl does everyone use as i have seen a few different suggestions around. Edited April 25, 2006 by madrolla68 Quote
Felix Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 that makes it easier still. ke15 hubs and discs are identical to ke2x ones. :P use your existing hubs. all you need then is some later discs, calipers, backing plates, and hoses. strip your old drums, hubs and backing plates off your struts. redrill the 4 holes on the strut to suit the larger bolts for the new backing plate, bolt up. unbolt your old discs from your ke15 hubs. bolt your larger disks to your ke15 hubs. put your hubs and new discs on. bolt up your later caliper. hook up the later brake lines. fit pads, bleed. i run a stock master cylinder on my ke15. gives great pedal feel. the ke16 has a subaru booster and m/cyl, it is touchy and crap feeling. i've got a dual circuit non boosted m/cyl from a galant, think it is 11/16". it will bolt up with a little filing to fit in the firewall strengthening plate thing. madrolla68 Posted April 25, 2006 Author Report Posted April 25, 2006 can't remember the particular model code. was the first bodyshape they came out in. hey how do the KE55 disks fit on the KE20 hubs if they have a different stud pattern PCD. MAtt Quote
Felix Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 the discs just bolt to the back of the hubs. it is the hubs which determine what the pcd of the rims should be, not the discs themselves. the ke3x/55/70 discs will bolt up to your ke15 disc hubs. :P Quote
