rke_011 Posted September 6, 2015 Author Report Posted September 6, 2015 Thanks again.. Precision said that although the ring may fit they can't confirm the depth of the rings and said would need to install on piston to confirm it fits. Sounds like it could be a little wste buying if theyre different depth. I have contacted hastings and Jp pistons to see if they have a listing for chrome rings or if they can confirm what will fit.. Unfortunately I don't have a big budget, so money wasted on rings that don't work mean less money elsewhere... will get there eventually! Quote
kickn5k Posted September 7, 2015 Report Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) I may try to get a set in this week and check it with the factory pistons i have. If they are a deeper radial depth, then that is something that I would easily be able to fix. Edited September 7, 2015 by kickn5k Quote
rke_011 Posted September 7, 2015 Author Report Posted September 7, 2015 Kickn5k, you work at a parts joint? if so if the rings will fit do you know if they do .060 chrome rings? Precision are not being very helpful with letting me know sizes.. all I know is they only have 040 hypatecs or 020 endurotech and that they can't confirm if the rings will fit (didn't tell me ring size options, but if I find out they do fit I will bug them more) if I can't get rings for hypatec maybe I will have to look at other options? Precision are not being very helpful with letting me know sizes.. I spose you'd call it a parts place. I make custom forged pistons(we also mod pistons), precision are one of our ring suppliers. I will try and give the melb office a call later this arvo, and see if +.060 is available. Quote
rke_011 Posted September 8, 2015 Author Report Posted September 8, 2015 Any info you get would be greatly appreciated, I want to buy pistons, but if I can't get chrome rings I may have to find something else, maybe go 4age pistons (if they work) and compression ratio doesnt go too high.. Quote
kickn5k Posted September 8, 2015 Report Posted September 8, 2015 I'll have an answer for you this arvo, I found we have a set of std bore in stock. Radial depths are the same no matter the oversize. Quote
kickn5k Posted September 8, 2015 Report Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) The oil ring is borderline, the top two seem to fit(with plenty of back clearance). If you only have to mod the oil ring grooves it would cost f'all and there is still plenty meat behind it. 4age pistons will sit too far down the bore. Edited September 8, 2015 by kickn5k Quote
joshua.mathews Posted September 8, 2015 Report Posted September 8, 2015 Use 4age pistons and spool custom 131mm c to c h beam 5k rods $495 a set Quote
rke_011 Posted September 8, 2015 Author Report Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Ouch . Little out of my budget... May just have to stock up on cast rings... Spewing! Out of curiosity could I use the cast rings and try to source a chrome top ring? Would that help? Edited September 8, 2015 by rke_011 Quote
rke_011 Posted September 9, 2015 Author Report Posted September 9, 2015 well precision don't do the chrome rings in 060 so I guess I'm going cast (can't afford to go all out).. wonder how long cast will last for street use.. Quote
kickn5k Posted September 9, 2015 Report Posted September 9, 2015 Use 4age pistons and spool custom 131mm c to c h beam 5k rods $495 a set That won't work for a low comp combo. Doubt you'd get custom for $495 thats less than he charges for off shelf. Quote

Ever seen what happens to a cast ring that doesn't like boost? They explode and take the ring lands on the pistons with it. Why do you need to go +1mm on the piston anyway? Quote
rke_011 Posted September 9, 2015 Author Report Posted September 9, 2015 that's all they have :( not my choice.. Quote
kickn5k Posted September 9, 2015 Report Posted September 9, 2015 that's all they have :( not my choice.. Ah fair enough. Just keep on top of your tune and you should be right. Quote
