greenmac80 Posted July 29, 2015 Author Report Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks Mate. bonnet and boot were bare metalled again no rust just a few dents to sort out. got the dents real close to being metal finished. so a light skim of filler was all that was needed. All sealed up in epoxy, and stripped the dash out. will attempt to repair the cracks and wrap it. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Report Posted August 3, 2015 So to fit the toyota surf booster had to get this spacer plate machined. went from 30mm ish down to about 12mm thick. Here the front end suspension is stripped off. ready to remove the motor motor on a custom made stand. really easy to move around. Fabricated a new trans mount. Bare chassis. Here are some pics of the chassis mods. boxed rails and adding a bit of support. Pics of the engine chassis mounts. We have one more mod to do to the chassis then it'll be cleaned seam sealed and painted. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 3, 2015 Author Report Posted August 3, 2015 oh yeah and driveshaft has been made. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 Ma70 rear brake setup acquired for the hilux rear end. Cleaned up the chassis. Used stone guard and some 2 pack gloss black. Was quick and easy and should give some decent protection. Also got into the rust repairs on the doors. Drivers front wasnt bad at all. notice last pic the weld along the bottom. i made a mistake when folding it over. the line didnt match up. so a bead of weld then some grinding and filing to get the line back. Drivers door. as far as i got. Quote
-=KE30=- Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Wow man fantastic effort! This things going to be killer when its finished :) Quote
Skellington Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 I read the title and expected to see an engine swap. Boy was I wrong. Looks really good. Color change will be sweet. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 9, 2015 Author Report Posted August 9, 2015 Thanks guys. alot of long days and nights in this build. hard to believe this has all happened in 1 month. so got the crown body over to my shop. started bare metalling the body and found some things. extra dents i knew nothing about. (full of bog) and some extra rust. photos of rust will be up over next few days. quite a bit of metal work to do. Day one got us that far. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 9, 2015 Author Report Posted August 9, 2015 well this dent made me angry. was really deep and was bogged up. Steel around the tail light was so thin that as soon as i hit it with a hammer it split. major PITA so before. and afters. with more time i could probably get it perfect but i'm happy enough. then fuel filler rust. cut shit out. decided to remove the cup. made a new piece and got most the way through welding it in. spent a long time beating another large dent in bottom of the same quarter. will post pics later when its done will hopefully finish up with the fuel filler tomorrow. 67Rolla-Ken Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 Those dents don't look that bad... when I stripped my car back I found the front inch (not exaggerating) was built out of bog, both quarter panels. They had also tried to panel beat them and stretched the metal so thin it couldn't be fixed. Rear quarters both sides had dents about an inch deep in front of the back wheel arch, filled with bog (no rust underneath some how). I'm sure you'll have her looking perfect in no time ;) Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 10, 2015 Author Report Posted August 10, 2015 your right theyre not that bad. just deep and creased. made it a serious pain to repair. i have no problem with bog only when its used in excessive thicknesses like it is here. wait till i throw up pics of my sill panel. Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 11, 2015 Author Report Posted August 11, 2015 so more rust. bottom passenger rear quarter. both skins. so cut drill remake and replace. welder is playing up so welds look like ass but its in there still nice and strong. found this in my sill. yaya for dodgy ass repairs. on good note got my bonnet in final coat if high fill so boot and bonnet will see paint very soon. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 Nice! That sill, my car had crap repairs like that all over... what were people thinking?! Quote
greenmac80 Posted August 13, 2015 Author Report Posted August 13, 2015 yes it is. Sills are a pain to repair too. metal is normally quite strong. the front drivers fender is the same had a massive dent in the front. there was no attempt at repair. just bogged up. was deeper than the sill was. Quote
