greenmac80 Posted February 21, 2016 Author Report Posted February 21, 2016 rocker switch? my glove box doesnt have a rocker switch in it. only a pressure switch for the light. Quote
parrot Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks anyway. This was an MS85 at the local pickle wreckers. The glovebox was open and it was sitting in a specific recess at the top of the glovebox. Definite factory switch, just an off and on. Had to cut it out of the loom as at the switch end it was factory soldered in Quote
greenmac80 Posted February 22, 2016 Author Report Posted February 22, 2016 might be a royal or super saloon thing Quote
parrot Posted February 22, 2016 Report Posted February 22, 2016 I delved a bit deeper last night and discovered it's a luggage compartment switch which told me nothing, but I did find it had some relation to another switch on the drivers side. I assumed it was a glorified light switch and gave up. In trying to remember what it was called just now, I did a quick google and have discovered a post on toyotaownersclub by ShaneD!: "That switch in the glove box is an override for the electronic boot release. You should have a switch near the bonnet release that releases the boot??? That switch in the glove box disables that boot release switch. The idea is that you can take you car for service and lock stuff in the boot so it can't be tampered with. Originally there was a service key supplied with the car brand new. The service would not open the boot or unlock the glove box. It only worked the ignition and the doors. I don't know how they were meant to check your spare after you did that???" So there you go. Can I be bothered installing it in one of my non electric boot release cars? I think not. Quote
greenmac80 Posted February 23, 2016 Author Report Posted February 23, 2016 yeah ok. ive run aftermarket central lock in mine so i'll be adding a boot release function soon enough. these cars had some pretty cool gadgetry for mid 70's cars. mine however is a lowly SE Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 I know timbo did a great and factory seeming job of integrating some late gen boot and door release solenoids into his ae86 recently. He may have some useful tips for the boot release source if you want a wreckers solution. Quote
greenmac80 Posted February 28, 2016 Author Report Posted February 28, 2016 i have the factory crown switch.. well hopefully will be picking it up on the way to the Nats. will have a suss of the guys boot release solenoid as well Quote
greenmac80 Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 so week before the nats my car got opticoated. well worth the money. car looks great all the time now. also ease of cleaning is awesome. Quote
greenmac80 Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 fit the over riders on the front bar. also wheel arch trims and sill moulds. really completed the look. won a rather funny trophy at the nationals. best "family hack' now the car to me isnt a hack but hey better than coming home empty handed. at the dubbo show and shine Quote
greenmac80 Posted April 12, 2016 Author Report Posted April 12, 2016 installed the stereo stuff. also in the works are new door cards. stereo gear will all get 'beauty' panels beginnings of new door cards. amps. all wiring pinned nice and neatly front speakers. focal polyglass. for the rear speaker i installed some nice lil alpine 4" speaker in the factory spot. boot has a 500wrms sub in there in a temporary box. greenmac80 Posted May 27, 2016 Author Report Posted May 27, 2016 Well been a while been enjoying it. did swap a trans out due to a front pump seal sharting itself. Got a shift kitted one in there now car goes much much better. then so first trans blew a front seal and it was starting to shift shit. new trans still feels perfect but... blown a front seal again. something is up with the setup. pulling it out next week hopefully figure out what the issue is. at least its only a $5 part. just 3-4hrs of dicking around. both times its blown a seal i've been a dickhead and been chucking donuts and the like. so high revs and low gear and strain. ALAS not all it lost. at least o can have a chance to rework my exhaust so it clears my diff better. also notch my chassis to give my calipers some more clearance and i also get to fit a UZS131 power steering box in as my current one is shagged. Oh and grease my urethane bushes... bloody things are squeeking like crazy. driving me mental. but i'm taking the car to winterfest so i don't have alot of time to get it all done. ergh. Quote
greenmac80 Posted June 7, 2016 Author Report Posted June 7, 2016 So lots of bits being upgraded and improved. Transmission oil pump has been rebushed and sealed. Also had the bush staked so it can't move again. We are thinking its heat thats doing it since its happened twice after being a dickhead doing burnouts and ringies etc. Also bought a 2800 stall. has all the fruit you can put in a stock converter. strengthened fins HD lock up clutch etc. UZS131 steering box has been a major pain. bolts to chassis but not to column. having to have the column modified. Worth it i beleive as the box is superior in design. Toyota crown RAG joints... took a while to find as there isnt any listings. Turns out holden gemini is the same. so i now have a urethane one. Should improve the steering feel immensely. especially considering my rubber one was completely FUBAR Also found my pitman arm was stuffed. Sent that off to be refurbished. got it back next day good as new. When i overhauled the suspension initially you couldnt buy them new. apparently now you can but id be dubious as to the fit as there is a couple different ones to suit the model. Also got myself a line locker so i can stop frying my rear brakes. Got all my bits together now just gotta put her back together and she'll be a different beast all over again. Quote
greenmac80 Posted June 14, 2016 Author Report Posted June 14, 2016 Car is back on the road. the steering is amazing compared to the way it was. Old box was 5 turns lock to lock. now its only 3 turns. much easier to control now when its cutting loose. Trans feels great. the stall converter really woke the car up. if you have a uz powered car its gotta be best bang for buck mod. needless to say i'm in need of new rear tyres after one night out trawling. greenmac80 Posted June 20, 2016 Author Report Posted June 20, 2016 couple of pics. Here is the steering column section that got modded. The pin was 20mm further up. after this pic the excess was cut off. the new converter. the old trans pump lil chunks missing Latest dyno readout. 2800 stall. shift kitted auto. Stock ecu.
