KE70+AE92 Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 And the fun begins!! That sucks so much man!! How far are you away from home? Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 Sucks mate but its a good way to ascertain whether the other stuff that's supposed to be in the motor is there. Quote
Sznaps Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 did previous owner change hg before? I would suggest going with toyota oem hg they are just very good. Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 That's no good! You borrowing a corner of some local garage and ripping it apart yourself? Did it back in the 70s when I first came to Aussie, the Beetle blew up on a trip from Canberra to Darwin.... Quote
ke70dave Posted March 29, 2015 Report Posted March 29, 2015 Also need to descern why the hg blew. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 Supposedly the engine was totally rebuilt which I wouldn't doubt as it drove great and was super responsive for a NA. I'm leaning more towards a cooling system issue. I know they have issues if shit isn't bled properly. It could be as simple as a cooling system that's been used more for urban stuff not up to the task of extended driving. I'll know more soon. We were lucky enough that Sams dad was at our house and grabbed a trailer and came and rescued us. The guy I bought it off has also refunded me $500 to cover trailer hire, racq membership and buying a new gasket and head bolts. He didn't need to do this and I was blown away, great guy 10/10. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 I'm wondering if I should buy a 0.8mm TRD gasket to peace of mind. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 Scraping this off the inside of the rad hoses. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted March 30, 2015 Report Posted March 30, 2015 Sounds like it needs a radiator, hoses, thermostat and all the rest. Its worth doing when you buy a nigh on 30 year old car. Sweet car btw. Is that original paint? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 Why did you want buy an MR2? Dunno, but glad I did. Exhaust cam out by a tooth. Getting it ready to pull the head off. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 Paint isnt OEM Matt, but it is a Toyota colour. Quote
Skellington Posted March 30, 2015 Report Posted March 30, 2015 Looks like you will have a really sweet ride when you are done. Plus, you will have the peace of mind knowing that you put it back together right. Too bad it wasn't like that from the start. It is what it is. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 Yeah that's my philosophy. I can do an egr delete and tidy up the engine bay as well. Gotta look at the positives. I wanna get something I can feed down the coolant pipes to clean them out. Might see if the local hardware store has something Quote
Doogs Posted March 30, 2015 Report Posted March 30, 2015 Bit of a bugger about the headgasket mate! I put one of these hose kits on mine when I had it http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27e85e7252 Awesome little cars, particularly with wide rubber etc. Are you planning on staying N/A? Quote
