So here's my tip for the day. Always use spring washers when your bolting your alternator bracket back in. That way the mount doesn't fall off for the next person who buys your car.

My tip when this happens. Use coat hanger wire to put your bracket back on and you'll make it home.....a little squealing form the fan belt here and there mind you. Grrr!

LOL, had this happen about 6 months ago on the ke16. we lost the top bolt....unfortunately one of the bottom bolts to the block was already gone, so the alternator cocked at a weird angle and we spat a fanbelt. luckily it happened near a servo, so i could buy a fanbelt. i borrowed one of the bonnet hinge bolts for the top mount so we could limp it home.

old corollas are cool. only once in around 15 years of driving KE corollas have i needed a tow.

my mr2's got a *cough* modified exhaust.,you can pull the muffler apart and repack it. Anyways when it was last repacked they forgot to put washers behind the bolts. Everytime Id shoot a flame (yeah the car shoots massive flames out zorst) i'd shoot a bolt out, after loosing about 15-20 of the basterds i realised how to keep them in. :)

Yeah it was fun. I had to drive home to get a lift home to get my tools though so I could get the splash guard off.

Nothing quite as drastic...

But I have lost my 3rd Speco chrome air filter!!! Thought the Rolla was making a pretty mean sucking noise at partial throttle, then when I looked, it had no filter on!!

This is starting to get expensive... Locktite time I think!!

I had an annoying rattle a few months back, got under the car one weekend and noticed my whole alternator would shift from side to side. No idea how it managed to, But it unwound the bolts from the alternator bracket to the block and they were tight as last time I did them up. Tightened them back up and they have been great ever scince..
