Jono.C Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Hey guys, I have a car i'm getting through rego and the diff is leaking between the housing and where the centre mates (Banjo diff) Basically i'm wondering if anyone knows of any sealant i can use as a temporary measure to pass pits and stop/ slow the leak? It only needs to be a temporary fix as once i can drive it i'll be putting it on a friends hoist and fixing it properly. Was wondering how sump sealer would go? Any ideas would be sweet, Cheers Quote
ke70dave Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Where is it leaking? Where the centre bolts in? If so,Id pop the axels out, remove tailshaft, drop centre out, put some permatex grey on the face and let it dry for a few hrs before filling with oil. Ive sealed many diffs with permatex grey and it works good. Quote
Jono.C Posted February 28, 2015 Author Report Posted February 28, 2015 Yeah where the centre bolts in. I know how to fix it properly i just want something i can smear on it as it is at the moment to stop the leak. I plan to fix it properly after rego at a mates hoist, Just wanting a temp fix Quote
ke70dave Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Ahhh. Well permatex grey smeared on might do it. Though depends if the leak is bad enough to penetrate the grey while its drying. Perhaps a putty of some kind might be better. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Its not too hard to do on the ground. Just do it right the one time bud. :clover: Quote
Jono.C Posted February 28, 2015 Author Report Posted February 28, 2015 It is when you have a popped disk in your back, Can't get under it properly at the moment. Hence the reason i'll be doing it on a hoist Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Every good sealant will be oil resistant so if you try and smear it on a leak by its nature it won't work. I found out this the hard way. Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 It is when you have a popped disk in your back, Arrrgh! painful! So you're a wreck for a few months... Drain it, pop the axles and undo the diff face most the way, then clean the sealing area with Brakleen & smear sealant ito the gap. If you can move the diff head forward 8 or 10mm while leaving it on the bolts it should all work. Mind you, getting the axles out while a hoist will be a trick! Quote
TRD ke70 Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 try tightening the nuts first, they may just be a little loose. Quote
Redwarf Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Commitment. Lacking you are. Arrgghh. This is where it went. I wanted to put it in another thread. Fail. Quote
