Went to put an oil pump which came out of a 3k engine into another newly bored 3k block (which I did not get with an oil pump) only to discover that it won't fit! The bore of the hole where it goes is 22.5 mm whereas in the other engine it is 25 mm. I have another oil pump which is also the bigger size. I had always thought the pumps were all the same but clearly not. I am guessing that the block is from the earlier model/s and my online searching hasn't come with anything. Any ideas about part number or sources for the pump?

I will answer my own query.....

The part number is 15100 22011 and suits the 2K and early 3K engines. Smaller shaft housing and also a bolt on steel tube to the pick up instead of it being an extension of the cast ally cover.

Not available at your local toyota dealer but available on-line from o/s or in the right engine from a wrecker

I am using the pump to draw oil from the dry sump tank into the engine and I have modified the wrong pump so will do it again and the bolt on opening into the pump will give a much better result.

oooh! photos! Sounds like quite a project! How do you get the oil line from outside to inside the sump & still be able to take the sump on and off?

By using an electric fuel pump there is a convenient hole in the side of the block where the mechanical pump was. A plate with a male AN fitting is bolted on there with a tube heading towards the pump on the other side. I will post a couple of photos when I get the right pump for the block currently on the engine stand to show how it all goes together.

It took me a while to find the right pump but found one NOS on eBay from USA. I ended up having to use the input flange from the later model as the one that came with the new pump was going to foul my sump which I had already made based on another block with the later pump. The pic shows the AN fitting on the side of the block with a fitting for a temp gauge. The braided line attaches to a barbed fitting on the other side of that and runs to the modified pump intake.

Nice work & thinking outside the square, did you make the oil storage tank or buy one & what sort of a pump do you use to scavenge the oil from modified engine sump ..

Thanks. Dry sump systems need not cost a fortune if you are able to fabricate some of the components. I am using a belt driven single stage pump from Stock Car Products in the USA as a scavenge which was an okay price back when I bought it with a strong $Aus. Another method often used is a pump from a bigger engine, like a Falcon, in a custom housing bolted to a plate welded onto the front of the timing cover with the pump shaft driven off the front of the cam. A single stage scavenge is all that is needed for a k engine and then just use the pressure pump as I have done.

With the tank, I know the limits of my welding and so had one custom made. It was actually done in the UK which a year or so ago was as cheap as anything I could get here and very easily arranged. I am sure though that it would be straight forward and not expensive to have one fabricated here as they are not complicated and just require some skilful tig welding.
