KP_JAMES Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 (edited) Made my first ever purchase of an oldschool rwd Toyota about a year ago with the intentions of restoring her and possibly making some money on it. Few rust patches (turned out to be ALOT worse), loads of gay leds/supercheap auto crap but heres the spec list: Engine: - 1300cc 4K - heat wrapped extractors - Some querky barely attached mushroom filter setup - Eagle 8.0mm ignition leads - New Carb that needs tuning - New points, condenser & dizzy cap - Came with free oil leaks from dizzy o-ring that felt like rock and from an invisible sump washer :/ - Custom fitted R33 strut brace - Somewhat custom 2"ish exhaust, one Coby resonator an H&R resonator and an unknown twin tip Back box. Drive line: - K50 5 Speed gearbox - Standard diff - New Wheels bearings Suspension & Wheels: - Cobra lowering springs all round - rear kyb shocks / standard fronts - Nolathane sway bar bushes - 3 X Nolathane bottom arm bushes + 1 X standard bush thrown in with a random square washer that barely missed the hub on full lock - 15 x 6 from what i believe Cressida Factory Toyota wheels wrapped in Achilles 195/50R15's all new tread Interior: - Factory option Rear windscreen wiper and de-fogger - Analog clock - Central Locking! - rear tinted windows - useless shift light - factory 8k Rpm Tachometer - heinous shift knob and boot - sport style steering wheel I.C.E (best bit): - Pioneer DEH-4550BT Bluetooth headunit w/usb & aux unput - JVC 230W 6.5" front speakers - JVC 310W? 6x9 rear speakers - JVC 800W Amp - JVC 1200W 12" Sub Exterior: - day time running lights in bumper - led park lights and indicators - replacement semi-sealed headlamps with bright white halogen bulbs - front grill replaced with mesh.. - Unknown NZ Made front lip also came with sideskirts and end caps Straight away, i ripped out all of the tackiness and fitted some replacement parts. KP_JAMES Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 (edited) This guy went spastic with the sound deadening (can't remember its proper name) so after cutting myself multiple times, out that all came. then found the rust it was hiding: etc etc, rust makes me depressed now! with the amount of rust there was it would've cost me a small fortune to get someone to do it, so out came the grinder and welder. Ended up being about 10 patches that were cut out an new sections from my spare shell welded in. Before/afters on all the wiring junk that was left behind: some people should not be aloud to touch cars.. Scored a set of Advan ADA's for free and bought a T3 spoiler Edited December 27, 2014 by KP_JAMES Quote
KP_JAMES Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 Also fitted a set of fender mirrors from eBay and a bolt-in roll bar (yet to secure) Driveline Phase So it was at this stage where I had a rethink about where I was going with the build, I had a Blacktop sitting in the garage, don't see too many high powered 20v KP's around so at it I went! found heavy varnish build up in the cylinder head but nothing that a toothbrush, meths, sisters paddling pool & citrus can't clean. half a day later: Exhaust/intake ports were filth, cleaned them up lightly with a dremel and assorted cartridge rolls to then left the intake ports with a smooth, but rough finish to help reduce pooling and improve flow efficiency Ordered a set of 284/278 - 9.3/8.5mm Kelford cams. to go with that, a set of uprated supertech valve springs, then got carried away and order a set of high comp 12.0:1 CP forged pistons plus a set of spool H-Beam forged conrods :) 1 Quote
KP_JAMES Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 (edited) Engine was then sent away to the engineers to have a three-angle valve job, skim & reset valve clearances. Still waiting on it to be done after 2 months.. I found a TE71 T series with mounts for a kp so snapped that up. It had a locked diff which twisted one of the axles..luckily I managed to find just one to replace it. Have a TRD 2 way lsd on its way to replace the locky. As for the gearbox I originally bought a W57 + front position shifter, 4age niteparts bell housing and release bearing extender. Then the opportunity to buy an Altezza J160 6 speed came about that I couldnt refuse. Had a chat with sam-q engineering and he should have a conversion kit sometime next year. Since the J160 came with an electronic speedo pickup sensor I figured i'll have a go at keeping it rather than the jumpy cable speedo pickup. i've seen kits that have a pulse signal input which then run a small motor to spin the cable tacho but at 400 plus that was not a option for me. Instead I decided to fit the rev and speed tacho from an AE111 into the starlets sprint cluster, had to file the light reflector trim the gauge surround & mill out the housing but all fits up snug. Also had to wind back the odometer, scarily easy to do. I love sunroofs, some people don't but thats ok. I happened to find one in a NZ new KE70 wagon at the scrap yard and had to have it. Made a template from my other shell then transferred it onto the good shell then carefully trimmed the hole out. Decided I didnt like the look of the eBay special fender mirrors, found a set of TE71 og's and sprayed with black plasti-dip Purached a set of Advan A3A's 14 x 6" +6 & a pair of SSR MKIII 14 x 6.5" +9.5 Now as she stands for now My plan is to drift the lil girl so will see how she goes, have ordered an ajps lock spacer to help with the short wheel base and T3 adjustable diff links to increase the rear castor as it were. For the suspension I am currently getting MRP AE86 front coilovers welded to my kp hubs w/custom tophats, and can use adjustable seperate spring and shock coils for the rear. For the front brakes i'm using ae101 single pot calipers and pug rotors, anythings better than the cute non-vented rotors on it at the moment. Edited December 27, 2014 by KP_JAMES Quote

B-Lugg Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 I would do filthy things to get one of these. I really enjoy seeing things done well. Keep it up. Quote
KP_JAMES Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 cheers man, are these somewhat rare in auz? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 Yeah, rare as the proverbial hens teeth. Only know of a handful kicking around. Quote
KP_JAMES Posted December 27, 2014 Author Report Posted December 27, 2014 Thats crazy, we can't get enough of them over here. Can pick a very average one up for about 300 buks or a minter for about 3k Quote
B-Lugg Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 I'm yet to see one in person and only know of a few in the country! Quote
mark1414 Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014 Yeah I have heard of one of these in WA (I think?) they are super rare here. Quote
KP_JAMES Posted January 3, 2015 Author Report Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) How strict are your importing laws, ship some over to yas? haha So cleaned up and sprayed the diff housing in matte black so doesn't look to tacky & whipped in another sump baffle. Nothing major as i'm still waiting on the welding inspector to x-ray the suspension hubs. Edited January 3, 2015 by KP_JAMES 1 Quote
KP_JAMES Posted January 18, 2015 Author Report Posted January 18, 2015 (edited) Thanks LittleRedSpirit. Been a little while since anything solid has happened, cleaned down all my engine parts and started assembling. Painted block and fitted new brass frost plugs for more bling. Cleaned with white spirits, hence the rust looking colour. Mucked around for a few hours customizing the factory brackets to fit my new Momo Corse, will dye it black at some stage. Head needs 8 new valve shims to suit the cams & block needs stripping again to re-bore for what i found to be oversized pistons.... stupid mistake, real f!@#ed off about it but ahwell, theres about a month and a half lead time on the rwd cooling kit and g-box adapter plate anyways. Heres hoping that my suspension arrives next week!! Edited January 18, 2015 by KP_JAMES Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 18, 2015 Report Posted January 18, 2015 Dye the seat? That thing looks cool as brown. Quote
