peterd Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 I've got a 4k 3speed auto and was planning on doing a manual conversion. I've got everything I need but I was wondering what type of gain I'd get from doing the conversion. I know manuals are more fun, but apart from that, is there much of a difference with accelleration, fuel economy, etc with doing the conversion? Quote
GJM85 Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 Wet weather clutch kicks.... Need I say more? Quote
GJM85 Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 But in truth, it all depends how lazy you are as a driver. I'm ʞ©$ɟing lazy which is why I've only got 4 gears. 5th is like that step to far! Quote
coln72 Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 Better acceleration. Old mans auto ke30 was a slug. Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 19, 2014 Report Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) Do it! The difference is amazing! I have one of each in the garage and the manual was an auto when we bought it. The 3-speed auto is a dog of a box, robs all the power from the motor and revs its stupid little head off with a 4.3 diff and a 1:1 top gear. The manual pulls a 4.1 diff and a 5th gear easily, so you drop over 500rpm at 100kph. The auto uses a litre/100km more on the open road and at least 2L/100km more around town. The moment we drove it with a manual we were stunned at how much more responsive it was, and how much quicker around town. peterd Posted September 19, 2014 Author Report Posted September 19, 2014 Thanks for your replies. I'm not what "mirin" means but I'm sure I want some. I guess I'd better do the conversion. cheers, Peter. 1 Quote
Banjo Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) Hi Peter, Agree with everything Altezzaclub says. Best thing you will ever do to your "auto" Rolla, is a manual conversion. Just do it ! It will be like a different car. Probably the very best combo is a 5K, 5 speed KE70 gearbox, and 4.11 manual diff/rear end, with 9" brakes. Quite a straight forward conversion. Plenty of threads on here where all is described. If you have any questions, just let us know, and someone here will help you out. Depending on what model Rolla you have, you might have to open out the tunnel at the rear a little, if you use a 5 speed gearbox with the gear lever right back (KE70). The Meaning of MIRIN MIRIN means "Admiring" Good luck ! Cheers Banjo Edited September 21, 2014 by Banjo Quote
peterd Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 thanks for teaching me a new word. I'll add it to my vocab. I find that just by driving a bright orange ke35, I get lots of "mirin", but mostly by bogans. (the male type) Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 'Mirin is usually used by insecure gym junkies who only focus on their muscle gain, or gains and the people who are 'mirin their said gains. I have written 'gains' so much it sounds weird in my head. Quote
