Jono.C Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 (edited) I thought i was over Corolla's for a while.. Apparently not! Basically bought it to quickly tidy it up and make a half practical daily.. My lowdown Celica and Crown are far from ideal.. So here it is! My Ke38 Body is a bit rough, Fair few rust patches and a few dents will need the porta power but pretty happy with it. Plan is to weld in Celica rear guards as the rear arches are fubar, Weld up the rust, Drop in a motor and rego it I'll do some more to it than that but those are the initial plans. Also 10 points if you can recognise the car Edited July 27, 2014 by Jono.C Quote
Jono.C Posted August 3, 2014 Author Report Posted August 3, 2014 Yup, Si's old 7k 4x4 project. Bought as a rolling shell needing a fair amount of work. This weekend dropped in a 4k and got it 90% ready to go, Now just need to fit radiator and alternator and then set the timing etc I'll upload some photo's during the week, Next up will be cutting the rear guards out Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 3, 2014 Report Posted August 3, 2014 Simon's 7k powered wagon? Was I but easy when I told you I sold it a few hours before you posted that lol Quote
Jono.C Posted August 6, 2014 Author Report Posted August 6, 2014 Dropped a 4k in for rego, All hooked up ready to set timing and crank. Couldn't get pulley off as yet to get the a/c working, and the wiring in the car for alternator is not standard 4k so need to sus that out Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 I have a pulley puller. When I drop shocks off next week we could whip the pulleys off both motors. Recon you'd need to take the radiator out so there is room to get the 4k one off though. Quote
Jono.C Posted August 6, 2014 Author Report Posted August 6, 2014 Got the one off the 7k but this one's stubborn. Got a puller here too just gotta get around to taking it to Chris's to do it. I reckon i'll have to change to ke70 viscous fan to clear the pulley, For some reason this ke70 motor has the 55 fan.. 110000k's though and was free so no complaints Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 Are you aware Ke70 water pumps have a different pcd and offset to 55 ones? 12" thermo might just be easier....actually wasn't there an old thermo in the box of stuff I gave you. Its a push fan not pull btw so would need to go on the front of the rad....Hmm but might not fit cause of the a/c condenser. Quote
Jono.C Posted August 6, 2014 Author Report Posted August 6, 2014 Yeah i know about the water pumps, I have a semi complete ke70 4k with water pump and fan assembly on it i can swap over if need be Do you know if the wiring was altered for 7k alternator at all? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 6, 2014 Report Posted August 6, 2014 No it just had a normal internal reg one on it. Quote
Jono.C Posted August 11, 2014 Author Report Posted August 11, 2014 It runs! Seems healthy besides a leaky front oil seal. Ke55 fan cleared the a/c pulled by 1/2" or so. Now just need to replace front main seal, mount a/c pump, few vac lines and figure out alternator wiring (Has a black 2 pin plug that doesn't match e70 alternator). Got stuck into a little bodywork.. Car is quite very rusted. Most of both gutters are rusted, around both rear windows have holes, rust in hatch, hatch floor has 3 fair sized rust holes, fuel door is rusted out as is passenger rear sill and both rear guards are toast.. I'll upload some of the repair pictures shortly! Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Wasn't there an alternator in your box? If so it'll plug straight into the wiring as is. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Be a bit of a shame to cut it up but could be some cheap panels and spare parts..... http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/oatlands/trailers/ke55-panelvan-trailer-rare/1054085106 Quote
Jono.C Posted August 12, 2014 Author Report Posted August 12, 2014 Yeah i had been contemplating that.. But that price is still too much for me to be interested.. Tail-lights don't look much chop, Factory diff isn't much use to me and hatch has had numerous latches riveted on.. I'm going Celica rear arches as well so i think i'll be sorted, Cheers though! Also turns out you were right, one of those alternators does have that different plug, Chris had it with the 7k stuff. Still dropping the shocks off tomorrow? I think i'll just use them for reference then put my Magna excel G's in Quote
