liamke70 Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 can you tell what the engine is from its engine number? trying the figure out what engine the car i just bought is regoed in. thanks for the help Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 No, all 4A engine numbers start with 4A. If the engine is running in a car it should be easy enough to tell. 4AC - carby, inlet and exhaust manifold on same side. 4AGE - fuel injected, inlet on drivers side, exhaust on passenger side (RWD) inlet on rear, exhaust front (FWD) 4AGZE - same as 4AGE except on the GZE under the inlet manifold there is a supercharger. B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) Or take a pic, post here and someone will tell you. Or check the build plate, if its the stock engine. Edited July 3, 2014 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
liamke70 Posted July 3, 2014 Author Report Posted July 3, 2014 thanks for your replies, but not quite what i was after The car has had several engine conversions, its a ke70 so I'm guessing it started with a 4k, then the previous owner had converted in to a 4agze at some point and now currently has a 4ac in it. On the license renewal form its say the engine number is 4A23xxxxx so what engine is the car registered with? the 4agze or the 4ac Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 Ah I get ya now. Pretty much impossible to tell from an engine number. If it doesnt match the one on the 4ac then you'd have to assume its rego'd with the gze number. Is it mod plated? Quote
liamke70 Posted July 3, 2014 Author Report Posted July 3, 2014 is mod plated the same as an engineers certificate? not sure either way, but if its registered with a 4agze would it need anything to run a 4agze legally? would it of already gone though the pits to get registered with a 4agze? thanks for your help Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 I'm guessing you are in SA? I think your best bet is to talk to your local transport department, or even an engineer. 2nd hand internet conjecture and hearsay is rarely correct and your best bet is to talk to someone who will be approving any paperwork you may need. There is so much variation between states that me (or anyone) giving you information correct for my (their) state could be completely wrong in another. Quote
liamke70 Posted July 3, 2014 Author Report Posted July 3, 2014 WA but i think their very similar yeah your right, will try to get to the bottom of it . thanks for the help Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted July 3, 2014 Report Posted July 3, 2014 I don't think you've told us yet whether the number on the 4AC matches the number on your renewal paper. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 If you have any original documents from the dealer in the love box, then you might have the original listed there, if not, just chuck any 4a in it and see. If any engineers reports were made they should be on file somewhere. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 If the Rego papers have it listed with a 4A engine you would most likely get away with a change of engine number if the engine in the car doesn't match what is on the Rego papers. Especially as you now have the lowest hp version of the 4A engine fitted. Quote
liamke70 Posted July 12, 2014 Author Report Posted July 12, 2014 can't find the engine number, where is it on 4ac? Quote
ke70dave Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Passenger side, under the distributor towards the back of the block apparently. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/37258-4ac-engine-number-location/ Quote
liamke70 Posted July 21, 2014 Author Report Posted July 21, 2014 found it and it is different to the one on the rego paper, also found that it has an engineering certificate for a 4agze. hopefully when i take it to the pits i'll tell them its just a less powerfull 4a motor and there wont be an issue. thanks for all the help :) Quote
